Installation was a breeze and a perfect fit for our 37" wide doorway. Keeps our rotty away from entering the guest bedroom. She likes to push up the electric blind to bark at strangers passing our common area hallway. The room is now totally secure. We usually don't fully lock the handle and operation remains one-handed.
Comes with 4 protection pads which can be screwed into the door jam. Didn't bother doing that as this gate remains firmly in place. White finish has a nice gloss which gives it a quality look and goes great with our off-white colored walls.
At 41" high, our 10 yr. old rotty has no desire to experiment jumping over. Our 5 mo. old goldendoodle doesn't mind this gate, for now!
Definitely would recommend this Regalo door to any pet owner that wants to secure a room from pet intrusions. For the protection, it's worth more than the Amazon selling price.

I've purchased a 2nd. Almost a year since I bought the first and one has finally managed to squeeze thru the slats! That's impressive, after all this time. Here's what I did:

Hardware cloth fence, $14.57, you get 10 feet x 24 inches (will work for two separate gates). Right side 13 inches, Left side 24 inches, I stacked them (13x24 + 13x24) (24x24)+(24x24), and I cut out slots for the gate latch and added those to the ends with industrial ties to close gates between last gate slot and the wall.

You only need regular, even dull scissors will cut the hardware fence, it's sturdy, but easy to cut. After you cut the pieces, you take the scissors and cut the 'fringe' on the edges, so that it's smooth. After you install it, you can hammer down the edge at the top of gate and add tape. If you add ties and they don't seem to hold, you did it backward, flip and put it through, again. I'll upload pics. Even kittens can't get thru my gate and it's completely safe. You don't have to overlap them like mine (I did that for no reason, off the cuff) and it'll go 7 inches over the top of the gate, if you have a jumper. I'd do it like mine, then separately cut pieces for the that. So it can be doubled (folded over), so there's no rough edge. You can see on the right side how it's doubled on mine, at the top, but do it on the otherside, as well.

$2.50-3.00 Duck (yes, Duck not duct, but duct is even better) or similar on the inner edges where people pass, for extra safety.

If you're short on material, between the last slat and the wall and in between the opening (where open the gate) are the biggest gaps, so I'd focus on that.

The gate is fitting good and the quality is decent. The problem is if you are trying to install it in front of your door, you might want to avoid that because the gate is extra tall and it might block door knobs. You can simply move the gate forward about an inch then your door can close. BUT the door knob will be hardly reached behind the gate.

This is actually our second gate, and that's only because we use it in two places. My toddler had no difficulty in climbing over a standard size gate with the small pet door on the bottom. This extra tall gate has been perfect to keep him froming down the basement when we run down, or from leaving his room before nap-time/bed time is over.

There are two slight downsides. The opening is narrower than the other one, which made it a bit difficult when pregnant or when trying to carry something large through, like a laundry basket or infant car seat. It also is a bit wobbly where the extender connects to the base gate. Installing the wall mounted holders was a must, otherwise it was pretty easy to push over.

I bought four different baby gates from amazon and made a table comparing them--north states is my favorite but the most expensive (pls see attached picture)

Overall, the Regalo brand is the least expensive of the four but it's not my favorite. This product (the Extra Tall one) is better than the standard size Regalo. Here's why:
***A toddler can open the standard size gate by lifting the handle. Yes there is a red latch to prevent this, but when the latch is engaged, now you as a parent (with your hands full) can't easily open the gate with one hand. If you buy this gate, buy the EXTRA TALL one so your toddler can't reach the handle and open the gate but you can still easily open it.
***The Regalo gate (normal and extra tall size) don't open both ways.

Questions to figure out what baby gate to buy:
***How wide do you need the gate to be? Most gates are built for a standard door frame--many come with extensions to fit larger spaces but some DON'T (ie you have to order them separately and pay more"¦).
***Do you want the gate to be normal height or tall? Normal height is good to step over easily. Tall is good if you DON'T want any kids to climb over it or you have a large/tall dog.
***Do you want it to open both ways? I like this feature a lot.

SAFETY
***All of these "tension mount" baby gates have four posts that screw outward until they reach the wall. They also have cups that you can install on the wall to make them more secure. You don't HAVE to install the cups to secure the gate against the wall, but you really must if the gate is in a high risk area--e.g. top and bottom of stairs or any rooms you would put them in where they are unsupervised (ie childproofed bedroom while you shower for example). A toddler can shimmy-shake a tension mounted gate away from the door frame. Or I imagine that a heavy/persistent toddler could lean enough times on a gate on top of the stairs to bring it down--basically, don't underestimate how strong or persistent your toddler is if it's your first kiddo and err on the side of safety by INSTALLING the MOUNTING CUPS.
