This makes an excellent "sour" poi
HeatherAugust 7, 2017
Make at least 6 hours ahead. For 4 tablespoons of poi add the juice of 1 lemon (squeezed) and 1 cup of water. This makes an excellent "sour" poi. It's not fresh poi, but it's really good.

I make this according to instructions on the lid. I have eaten it as soon as it cools and after refrigerating overnight. I am not fond of its natural taste so I mash a banana then add berries, nuts, granola, etc. It's now a part of my regular diet ... at least twice a week. Helping calm and build resistance to contact allergies that cause facial flare ups. I've read that this is a contributing factor why Hawaiians have less allergies than some other cultures. Working for me. :o)
Seems like a good product. But a little pricey though!

I purchased this smaller size to try it out. I originally intended to use it straight, or raw, without cooking it first by adding a spoonful to my morning smoothie. I do not know about the taste as I have been mixing it with other ingredients. I wasn't sure at first if mixing it raw without cooking it first was a good idea, but after a week of using it each morning by adding one table spoon to my smoothie, I didn't have any bloating or excessive fullness. So far, so good. My only concern is if my body is actually absorbing the nutrients of this product without cooking it first. I have been noticing that I haven't been as hungry throughout the day as before. One of the main reasons why people over eat is due to the poor nutritional value of the foods most choose to eat leading the body to be constantly hungry that leads many to over eat on a regular basis which leads to becoming overweight. I used to be a competitive lifter before age and injuries got the better of me. It was very well known, even back in the 1980's when I first started lifting, that Poi was a secret ingredient that only Pacific Islanders had the luxury of using and having regular access to. Top bodybuilders as well as other competitive lifters often looked forward to visiting Hawaii, not only for the beaches, but for the Poi! So far, it seems as if this product fits the bill and will be apart of my morning smoothies. My only complaint is the cost. Especially for the smaller size. But, sometimes you have to pay for the things you want. So far, I think this product is worth it. I didn't give it five stars because of the price.

My step dad (native Hawaiian) really liked it. Need to get him some more.
