So"¦every summer I drive from NC to MT and back. Lots of times I take someone with me. Every trip, I bring this game along, and every time, I hand it to my passenger and say, "we're gonna play this license plate game" . They look at me like, "okayyyy"¦". Then we hit I-40 and they start getting different states and flipping the different wooden license plates over and suddenly they are all in. It never fails. One of my favorite memories with this game is handing it to our grandkids in the Yellowstone Park parking lot by Old Faithful and setting them loose to look. They got 46 plates in one go. And my mom at 88 had a blast looking for them on a road trip one year. This year we are giving the game to all 5 of our kids' families and I have no doubt it'll become part of their road trip lore too. Thanks Doug&Melissa for the memories. (PS I'd like to add that you folks in Maine and Rhode Island need to come west because those are ALWAYS the hardest to get) =)

When me and my family would go on vacation when I was younger this was ALWAYS a game we played to keep us kids busy. My mom used to always have a notebook and pen and as we would go along we would search for all the license plates and try to get all 50 of the states. My Mom would then make us try to guess the capitals to everyone of those states.

Now that I grown and enjoy traveling with my own family, I like to keep the tradition and play the license plate game with them as we go. I hate though having to have a notebook and pen with me for it to get thrown around in the car and tossed all over. I saw this one year while I was staying in the Star Valley area in Wyoming but it was $50 and I thought it would be simple to make my own, that was 4 years ago. Our last family road trip we went on I decided I needed to see what I could find in the way of the license plate game online. My parents now have one that is magnetic which they like but they say the magnets aren't very strong and still tend to get shifted and moved around as you open and close the game.

While searching on amazon I found this and ordered it for our family so that we could have something to take with us as we made our trip. I really like this board, it's thick and doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart. I only wish it was just a little bit smaller so it could fit underneath a seat or in the glove box, which is why I only gave the 4 stars rather than the 5. The license plates are held on nicely and secure so there is no turning over or messing them up. It's nice to have printed on the back the capitol in case you forget any you can cheat and look ;-) the red and blue are supposed to be used for if you are playing in teams but my family used them as trying to guess which state is red and which state is a blue state.

Melissa and Doug have done it again and made a quality product at a good price. This game is great and keeps kids busy and searching for all the license plates they can find. What a great game to play in the car with your family and I like that it can be used a learning tool to teach kids about the 50 states and capitols.

Bought it for my grandchildren to use while driving from Florida to Iowa and they had a blast. They now take notice of license plates and enjoy seeing all the different one.

My 7 year old collects things like real road signs and license plates. We live near a tourist town (near Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge) in TN and we see so many different license plates. The other day he found 9 different license plates. In the summer he will probably find all of them. In the summer we seen four different cars with Hawaii license plates. So maybe he will be able to find them all.

And also, he knows almost every capital to 42 different states and he just got this three days ago. Before that he only knew 24 states and capitals. Not only is it a fun game but also a good learning game.

I would definitely recommend this if your kid is fascinated by different license plates or if you want to teach the states and capitals.

Some of the plates are old. Tennessee changed theirs a year ago to a blue license plates and then there are special license plates but that doesn't matter. Just flip it over when you find the state. It keeps kids from being bored.
