Mine came tuned somewhere between low E and Eb (I checked it with an electronic tuner). It's made from a single ply wooden rim with about a six inch scarfed joint. The hide is glued in place over a screw moveable rim, making the drum tunable. An allen wrench is included for the eight tuning screwws. The natural goat skin gives it a wonderful deep tone with about an 8 second sustain! If you're unfamiliar with natural drum heads, you need to keep them warm and dry. It can sound like rolling thunder or evoke the echo distant of canon fire. It responds to the lightest taps and strokes of the fingers or a strong attack of the thumb or open hand.
This drum echoes with complex overtones and you can feel the vibrations pass through your body. It's wonderful!

Never had a frame drum before. It came in good order and since I have no experience I've been tightening up the head gradually, just enough each time to keep the sound even all the way around. I'll worry about the exact pitch a bit later. Learned how to do that on Youtube, as well as the main sounds, Dum, Tek, Key, Paw, Seki (or however they're spelled). I'm using this for medieval dance music. So far so good and am very happy with it.

A fantastic instrument! It's handmade and it has a really good sound. Great sustain from the goatskin head. It being tuneable is a plus. I use it all the time along with my other world instruments in my studio sessions. Love it!

The drum has a loud deep tone but doesn't sound like it is tuned like you would find on other popular makes. A couple of the rivets(?) were sticking out which rattled when the drum was struck. Perhaps this was supposed to be a snare effect but there were no instructions included to explain their purpose.

This is a really nice drum built with quality materials- nothing synthetic. It has a good sound, is pretty loud and a really great deal. I took some photos so you can see more angles and what is included with the purchase.
