Taking the heat - away

First know this was from Amazon warehouse and may have been returned merchandise. The directions are poor and incomplete so best have some installation experience of similar items. The blades struck the shutters and while the ability to move them on the shaft exists the set screw uses an unusual size hex key. Once set to correct distance it became obvious a blade was at an incorrect angle. The blades are thin and easy to adjust but also easy to bend so be careful. Now it is installed in a shed along with an adjustable thermostat and works as it should. Note, rather than take the 2x4 framing approach, the unit was mounted flush with the shed walls and a hood was devised to protect the extended portion. Also, another modification was to use a 3-way switch to allow total off or on or control by thermostat. The thermostat was installed high in the shed to be activated by heat build up near the ceiling.
Loving It For My New Garage!

I purchased the 12" model for my new garage/workspace to vent fumes, cigarette smoke, etc while working and I love it. I have seen many people ask what the rough opening should be when framing for this and my 12" model required a 12 1/8" x 12 1/8" hole for the louvers outer casing to fit through perfectly with a tiny bit of relief on all 4 sides. Im assuming that all of the 12" models are the same and that opening worked perfectly for me. I framed for mine just like a tiny window and it worked out great. The fan works best for my application directly across from a door or a window to all the air through the room and its way more powerful than I thought it would be for a small fan. I bought a simple on/off switch from home depot and the wiring took me less than 5 minutes to complete. Do know that this is a hardwired fan and does not plug into the wall! One thing I was worried about was mechanical clanking noise sometimes associated with exhaust fans but this one was silent mechanically while operating. The only noise heard is the rush of the air and blades when its on. A simple fan that works perfectly, looks nice and does exactly what its supposed to do. Highly recommended!

When I bought my home my detached garage had a hole in the wood wall as if a wood stove pipe was removed from the opening, leaving a huge hole in my garage. My garage had poor air flow as it was so I decided to buy this exhaust fan to help circulate air and lower temps inside the space. I attached it to a duct stat to control temperature and keep it from running constantly. The shutters keep animals from entering my garage which was a huge concern. I wired the fans wires to an old AC unit plug that has a built in GFCI in the plug to add some extra protection from water shocks and electrocutions since it's in my garage. I am so happy with this purchase, it has checked 2 boxes off my garage repair checklist.
Good exhaust fan!

Fan works as expected...when first installed, the fan was hitting the guard. At first it appeared that I needed to loosen the lock screw and move the fan on the shaft, but noticed only one blade was hitting. I suspected it was just bent during shipping, so bent it back. The shutters could be a little tighter as most reviews mentioned, but it's not a deal breaker, especially since these type of fans aren't as easy to find as you would think. Once installed, it does the job of exhausting the garage so unpleasant garage smells aren't entering my home and upsetting my wife! Goal met!:)
I bought this fan because I like to smoke an occasional cigar

I bought this fan because I like to smoke an occasional cigar. Since we recently moved to Fargo, ND there is a significant amount of time each year that I can't sit comfortably on my patio. So I installed this fan in my insulated/heated 3 stall garage. To test it out, I had 4 cigars over 4 nights. I have not had one complaint from my wife. I even used it when I grilled hot dogs and it worked great. My math says it exchanges the air in my garage every 12 minutes. When I smoke a cigar, I open the door to the house about 5-6 inches and I can feel air being pulled from the house. When I grilled in the garage, I cracked the garage door to let fresh air in. With my 80,000 BTU Mr Heater Big Maxx, it stayed very comfortable in the garage with temps at about 15 F. I did not install a rheostat, as I was afraid the motor would overheat at low speeds. Noise is not a big issue at full speed. Install was pretty easy. I built a 2x4 frame and covered it with 2 layers of corrugated cardboard for insulation and a simple pulley with 550 cord through an eye-lag in the ceieling and a loop on the end to open/close the cover. It's working great so far.
