Attracts a Lot of Debris
raj from chicago✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 9, 2023
A bicycle mechanic uses many lubes, solvents and various sprays. There is no miracle product that does everything. This lubricant is suitable for dust and dirt free environments. Though it has a very good drip spout. I stopped using it as a chain lube many years ago because it attracted too much crud. It has the consistency of a mid weight motor oil. What it does well is lubricates when overhauling freewheels, coaster brakes, roller brakes and cassettes. This product is way too expensive for the small bottle but I still recommend it.
Great for Sturmey-Archer overhaul

I used this oil to rebuild my Sturmey Archer AW hub on my 1974 Schwinn. So far, I've had a really great if limited experience. Firstly, the oil is truly tenacious; it sticks to where it's applied and the hub works really well when lubed with this stuff. This oil is thicker than most machine oils leading me to find one potential fault; the hub has a tiny oil fitting where, periodically, I add oil to replenish and lube the hub. The fitting might be too small for adequate lubrication and I fear oil added to this port via other means will not make its way to the pawls, gears, etc. I was sure to properly lubricate the internals (especially the pawls and pawl springs) prior to reassembly but I'm not confident oil added to the fitting would make its way throughout the hub. I'll probably attempt to add a few drops of oil after about 200 miles and update my review accordingly.
I reccomend if you want to service any freewheel of freehub with a good lube. Other wise it has no real value.

I like this stuff. I bought to try out. It is way different than most other lubes. Works best on Freewheels and freehub bodies. Phil Woods requires this on their proprietary freehub bodies for maintenance. Just the right consistency, and wont wash out easily. I tried it on my Jocky wheel bushings. It works great there too. I would not use this on any of my chains though. I see others do. It is a dirt magnet for sure. So I would only use it for enclosed areas of lubrication where you cant get a grease into. I don't use it much aside from my freehub bodies. It will subdue a noisy Freehub after a good cleaning. With very smooth pawl action.
It does smell like Automotive gear oil with the same viscosity of a 80w90 grade which I have here for comparison. It has the same texture and thickness. Others have said the same. I agree. It is expensive by volume, But you don't need a lot at all. or it becomes a mess. It becomes stringy when its cool/cold. Its thick. Use only a few drops at a time. This stuff goes a long way. And it remains where it touches. Much like a grease would. But I am sure any Automotive Synthetic 75w90 hypoid gear oil would give the same results at $15 / quart by comparison.
This stuff is INDUSTRIAL strength!

I ordered this oil after reading a Sheldon Brown review. As I ordered it, this prompt appeared warning me that part of my order was toxic and could cause CANCER?!?!!!! What?? I'm just trying to lube my bike chain... Not DIE in the process! I went ahead and ordered anyway because I had heard so many positive things about it. When I recieved the oil, it was packaged in a plastic zip-loc bag. The crazy thing about it is... I could smell the product through the baggie... Not that it was leaking... This stuff is STRONG! You can lube 747 jet parts with this stuff! The directions do instruct you to use it in a well ventilated area, which is good and you're definitely gonna need fresh air when using it. It doesn't take a lot to lube anything with this... If you can help it, store the product in a well-sealed (tool box.. storage container) or well-ventilated area. A few drops and you're golden. It's nicely THICK! I imagine this product lasting a LONG time & glad I purchased it.
Great grease alternative for AR-15 lugs

I use this for the lug assembly of my AR-15, which gets a lot of pressure and mechanical movement. I like this because it has a medium-low viscosity yet stays in place like a grease. It's a great mineral-based oil for applications where you want something lighter than grease but want it to stay in place.
