Funky tool not SW ready
manwithcash✓ Verified PurchaseMarch 24, 2018
The item I purchased was a warehouse deals used one and the battery cap was broken so it didn't retain the batteries, but I will only discount one star for this as it is not the mfr's fault, however the cap was so thin and tabs were weak so upmost care is needed to avoid this problem, and the door is not sealed so the batteries can get wet.

The snipper itself.......it's funky.....you have to unlock it to cut, and I found it uncomfortable to use. It didn't cut the braid clean all the time. My pliers do a much better job (and have an led in a sealed housing) which costed about 30 bucks. Simple fingernail clips work as well for me, and I don't have to fumble with it.
Avoid the Saltwater Big Snip

I have 6 of the smaller boomerang snips and decided to get this larger one for my boat. It has a major flaw out of the package. It's almost as if they have been over compressed in the package and it no longer has good tension to open the cutting blades. I returned one and the next one had the same issue, but worse. I would advise to avoid these larger snips until they can address this issue. The smaller one is great, but this big snip is clearly not the same.
A Very Handy Tool, But...

This tool came with me nearly every single trip to the water, and when I forgot it, I always wished I had remembered it. The compact size, the design (it isn't just some tackle company-badged nail clippers), and the ease of use make this a must have.

That being said, the version I had with the little LED light needs some design work. The switch (at least on mine) slides on WAY too easily. Even having it hanging from a loop on a shirt or just being in a pocket, it seemed incidental contact was enough to bump it on without me noticing it. This resulted in the battery draining super fast and eventually dying.

Which leads to the next flaw -- the battery housing cover. A single drop on a gravel bank caused the housing cover to pop off. I found it, put it all back together, and the LED still worked...but it was not an encouraging sign. I made sure it was tight every time from there on out, but one day at work I had the SNIP in my coat pocket and it fell out from about 3 feet onto a concrete floor. The housing cover popped off never to be seen again. Shortly thereafter, the tool vanished as well.

I plan on getting another one, however it will most likely be the one without the LED.
Wonderful!

These are great! Especially since they are just a little more expensive than the short nosed ones, you get more cutting area for just a little more money. My last pair was the short nose variety, and those were great, but only lasted about six months. These will probably last me a whole year.
ZING & SNIP all day long.

I no longer go fishing anywhere without, even when I stop for a quick couple of casts on a pond on my way home from work. It's been attached to another zinger with my hemostat, the only other tool I never fish without. I no longer worry about what damage I may be doing to my teeth by trying to bite through various nylon and mono-filament lines, even occasionally a braided line...(let's be honest, we all have tried to chew threw one). Nail clippers might be cheaper but heck, we all have a pair somewhere in the bottom our tackle boxes already and we still don't use them.

Ease of use - very easy to use one handed, it slides out of the locked position without much pressure at all. It however is enough to keep it locked when marching around through the brush to your favorite fishing hole. Leaving you without having to worry about an open blade slicing open your ridiculously priced waders.

Durability - ZING ZING ZING - me pulling the SNIP along it's line and letting go, just because. It's been soaked, dropped, sat on, and played with like a fidget-toy for all last season. I've fished with it for 3-5 times a week all year, making a ridiculous amount of cuts. So so many cuts...you really tie a sh*t ton of knots when you start fly fishing.

Just spend the few bucks it costs to get this, it's worth it especially if you are a fly fishermen.
