Non-Standard Length Bulb - Read the Q&A's Before Buying

VERY IMPORTANT - this fixture uses a NON-STANDARD length bulb. This is not disclosed in the description. I had purchased this to use with standard T5 fluorescent grow bulbs and, of course, they didn't fit because the bulb length in this fixture is non-standard. Not sure what you would do to replace the regular bulb in the future because it is non-standard. Very, very disappointed and out $35.

I tried another 18" flourescent fixture that was a GE direct wire and prime but the bulb was much thinner than this one and the wiring we had would not accommodate that fixture. Then I tried Lowe's. They only carry LEDs in the 18" size. There were only 2 wires in the fixture but our wiring had three wires. Besides I prefer to use the plant and aquarium flourescent bulb because I have some houseplants there. Finally I read the size bulb of the unit being replaced and found this one. I ordered on Saturday and this arrived the same day as my prime order did and finally it went right in quickly without problems. I didn't realize there are differences in bulb diameters and that your wiring might not accommodate different kinds of bulbs or sizes.

This is a good little light for under-counter use; however when I went to install, I discovered the amount of wiring supplied with the unit was too short to meet the needs of my existing house wiring. When I used one of the "knock-outs" at the end of the unit, my wire leading from the house was too short to attach to the wiring on the unit requiring me to add about 4 inches to the unit wires which resulted in two additional wire connectors (for a total of 4 connectors within the unit). This situation adds additional risk of future shorting within the unit(not a satisfactory design. I would suggest the manufacturer add enough wiring to extent the unit wiring to the end of the unit. It is better for the installer to have more wire available and just cut off the excess than to have not enough requiring a "bridge wire". Thus I have to reduce my recommendation to just "OK".

Works great. Comes with detailed instructions, mounting screws, and wire nuts. Metal on sides is a bit thin so you have to be careful when mounting. I live in an older apartment built in the early 1900's and the wiring is the thicker type. When I shoved all the wires inside to hide them, one side of the under cabinet light bent. But it bent back into place just as easy.
This would be a great light for a garage or utility space. Its very industrial looking.

Install can be tough

Light is OK, except installation was difficult because of lack of knockouts. Knockouts are small 1/2 inch, not the size on electrical boxes. Not much room to get cables in and there is no choice of locations. Bottom line, I had to drill an opening to mount the fixture since I had no option of where to install it as I was replacing an existing fixture. These hard wired under cabinet lights can be a real pain if getting to the power is an issue. So part previous install not great, plus no knockout options on this fixture combined to make the job tougher than I imagined. Just understand what you are getting and if you're ready for it, you should be OK.
