Seems to be doing the job but will require more than one treatment due to significant algae growth this year
Jen Downey✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 3, 2017
This is the 2nd year of my approximately 1500gal Koi pond being set up and I was dealing with significant string algae. After one treatment it is drastically reduced, guessing it will take a couple treatments to really knock it out, but I'm pleased with the results. The Koi did not seem to be phased by the treatment though some of my water lillies seem to be a bit shocke. They were not severely damaged, but some flower blooms that were in their prime appear to have stopped blooming. I'm sure the plants themselves will bounce back though. Will try to update after a couple treatments.
It really works!

This really works and it's given me a great head start on the algae this spring. I think the key to this working its best is to turn off the fountains or waterfalls that will disrupt the water before you apply it. It also works better when the water temp is about 60 degrees or higher. This is my second season using this and it works so well for me that I purchased the 50 lb option. It has not harmed any of my koi or water lilies in the pond.

I turn my waterfall and all water features off before treatment, treat my pond with GreenClean, wait 20-30 minutes for the dead algae to float to the surface, then use a skimmer to remove the debris. The next day, I'll clean out the skimmer box. More and more of the algae will die and clear off the rocks and other surfaces for the next few days. I use this with confidence now.
WOW!!!

All I can say is WOW!!! I somehow had a string algae bloom in the middle of winter. The stuff was so thick the koi were having trouble moving through it. 5 minutes after dosing the 3000 gallon pond with two scoops of the GreenClean, I was cleaning gobs of algae off the surface of the pond. I wasn't sure how it would work in 40 to 42 degree water, but I had to try it. It took a few days for the water to go from milky back to clear, but once it did, the fish could be seen moving around again! So far, so good!
Finally starting to win the battle!

I have used barley straw in past years but they failed me this year for some reason. I then tried adding another product that is supposed to reduce phosphates, still no reduction (after weeks) of string algae taking over my pond. I bought this, sprinkled in, and finally I started to win the battle. I was experiencing a very heavy amount of algae so I went a bit heavy on the dose used relative to the instructions. There was immediate impact / improvement and it continued to improve for several days. I did a second treatment after about 5 days (again a bit heavy on the dose) and got the full pond almost algae free. Now about two weeks later some algae is starting to establish again, so it will be treating today but will try the recommended dosage. I will update if my opinion changes, but so far this seems to be helping without resorting to chlorine or bromine.
We watched the algae turn brown & float to the surface

This stuff is great and works right before your eyes. It will take us several treatments to undo the two years of no maintenance the pond has endured before we started caring for it, but you know this stuff works because it kills the algae immediately. We could see it peel off the bottom of the pond, turn brown, and float to the surface. When it was done we did some skimming to get the dead algae off. We combined this with some barley to control the string algae, which is starting to turn brown and die. All in all they both work well together and are helping us to control the algae problem. If they don't work for you right away, you might need to step up your dosage, and in the more extreme cases it will require more than one application. But you will need to clean up the aftermath, this isn't a "set it and forget it" thing.
