Broken cheap junky tool.
juiceApril 15, 2018
opened the tool to use it and one of the hooks for the spring was broke off the tool. completely useless. now the site tells me my return window closed. what a waste of money. DON'T PURCHASE, or at least learn from my mistake, open it immediately to see if the product isn't already broken - apparently even when amazon says it's in good to very good condition.
Works perfectly on springs for my '98 Nissan Sentra
Tisagh ChaseMarch 19, 2018
I was a bit sceptical after viewing other customer's reviews about this item but decided that I couldn't lose at the price. I'm so glad I didn't opt for a more expensive product as these work great for my jobs. I own a 1998 Nissan Sentra and used these to compress the springs on my shock struts. When done properly the springs sit perfectly in the grooves and I was actually able to compress them using one hand while videotaping the process.
When operating ensure to compress and release both of them as evenly as possible to avoid mishaps.
DANGEROUS
ZodwraithNovember 2, 2017
Dangerous. Used, well attempted to, to compress coil overs to change struts. Long before first spring was compressed enough to remove one of the jaws exploded with enough force to puncture a 1" gash into a can of WD-40 10 feet away. That's not "ouch" dangerous, that's lethal Hiltex is gonna get sued because someone can die dangerous. Under no circumstances should these be used on any type of automotive spring.
Likely great if your springs are the right diameter.

Each end has two grooves for holding the spring. The grooves assume a certain spring diameter. If your springs aren't the expected diameter, then the spring isn't held properly. A single groove would work more universally.
Not great
WallyOctober 11, 2017
Cheaply made. Three hooks were too narrow to fit my springs correctly, but with patience and extreme caution, I was able to complete my repair. 3 stars for price and being useful, but far from a great product. Used on suspension springs from a 91 Honda CRX.
