If I could give 0 stars I would. I have had this tortilla maker for 5 months and have not been able to get good tortillas out of it, and I try every week for taco night. I have also watched about 10 videos to try and get it right. No matter what I do once the tortillas cool a bit they become rock hard. I've tested my recipe and when cooked on the stove they stay soft for days. For the price it should do what it says and it doesn't! Since I am past the return period for Amazon I am stuck with this piece of junk and I just use it like I would a $20 press.
Works as advertised

Way better than a rolling pin.

I absolutely love this machine

I absolutely love this machine. I have become the Queen of Tortillas! Tricky first time out, but by the second batch, I had it figured out. Need to keep the temperature dial half way, not on "medium". Press the tortilla down only one time, then wait 5 - 10 seconds and lift the lid, finish cooking on a grill. I don't even roll out the dough into balls, I just scoop it with a large spoon, and slide the dough off with another spoon. Works great. Reading other reviews helped me decide to buy this machine. It was worth it.
Watch the video posted in the reviews.... it works!

We followed directions posted in a video here in the reviews and it worked almost perfectly in flattening flour tortillas. The issue I had was that I made the dough too dry but I will modify that problem in my next attempt. It worked a thousand times better than a traditional press (without the heat) which failed miserably when we tried it. Our rolling technique was much to be desired as the tortillas ended up in every shape except perfectly round so we would amuse ourselves by naming a continent that the tortilla was shaped as (Australia was overly represented). So, if you are looking for an easy way to flatten those homemade yummy tortillas without covering yourself and the kitchen in flour, spring for this press!
Great solution for a no-wheat kiddo! Tortillas or roti's with weird grains

So - this little contraption allows us to make thin tortillas or squat roti's (Indian bread) using lots of strange grains.
We have a no-wheat kiddo - so regular four/whole wheat tortillas are forbidden. Corn tortillas from the grocery store are soooo flat and boring after a while.
With this device, we can mix up some Quinoa. Flax, Buckwheat, or "other" alternative grains (there are many recipes out there) and be creative. We can mix up "just a meal's worth" or make a whole larger batch.
Better still we can experiment with the recipes, make some sweet, some savory, some spicy, all on a whim.
The trick is to figure out how much grain-to-water-to-oil you should use. We have had the best results using lard (yes - lard! it's not that bad for ya).
The tortilla press not only has a lever-action so it can squish-the-devil-out-of-the-dough, it also has a high-wattage heater, so the finished tortilla/roti is actually crispy on the outside. (I read a bunch of other reviews on other devices before buying this one.)
Happy so far!
