In one year of light use (once a week), the inside of this latch fell apart. First one, then the other, swaged pieces departed from their positions and jammed the lock. A single screw lets you into the back of the latch and you can see for yourself how clever but badly executed the soft steel parts are. AND THIS is the HEAVY DUTY version. Low price has yielded poor quality. I leaned this way because Nu-set is a women-owned company. I guess we are all human. I will look for a better made unit, perhaps a used old-time one.
The rim around the cylinder was so badly plated it has already rusted.

Having worked as a locksmith for a few years I found this lock quite easy to install. I gave the instructions a quick glance and though they were a little abbreviated for a novice, however, if you are handy with tools you'll figure it out. You are going to need a 1-1/4 inch hole drill, a couple other drill bits and, of course, a power drill and a Philips screwdriver. If your door is made of wood everything should go OK, but if the door its clad in steel you may want to reconsider installing it yourself. At the very least, make certain that your 1-1/4 hole drill and drill bits are made for use with metal. As far as security, like most entry door locks it's only as secure as the door and the door frame. So, in most cases, a good swift kick and the bad guy is in. With this lock you may want to substitute two of the screws that hold the piece that attaches to the jamb with a couple of screws that are longer - it may help a little. This lock is NOT pick-proof, but all-in-all, a decent value for the money.

I would have tried to deal with NU-SET but can find no way of communicating with them. The lock is made OK except for one fatal flaw. As you can see from the picture the key is cut very deeply right up by the base. This makes the key very weak. The two keys that came with it have already broken. Luckily I was able to get the broken ends out of the lock and also had had a spare made but I have little confidence in the longevity of any copies or the usefulness of the lock due to the manufacturing flaw.

This is exactly what I needed! I have a garage door that opens outward, so I flipped the bolt (easy), and it works great. My only concern at first was that the key get stuck briefly a few times, but it worked itself out pretty quickly and now it's smooth. This lock is a very convenient and very secure option for me. An outward opening door is a great application for a lock like this because the flat side of the bolt faces out, making it more difficult to break in with a credit card. Thank you Nu-set!
