A LOOK BACK FOR MADONNA!
Antoinette Ma Nason✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 10, 2023
As a late Madonna fan, I watched this dvd selection of her videos in awe!

I'm so glad she included Justify my Love and Erotica, but they are edited a bit, and someone as strong in her opinions as Madonna, I thought, would see this as
a disappointment, since she enjoys pushing the limits, especially re: SEX, I
also loved the video where she is showing her real self for the first time in LIKE A VIRGIN! It always brings back great memories of when I was going to dance clubs
mainly in Hollywood, many re-mixes of that song..I wish she included Gambler,
and the Thunderpussy video, that shows almost all her videos in clips.

FROZEN is an incredible video meaning different things to different people, that video shows her other side I feel, that's why she's all in blk,she really feels in that video.

The video, Human Nature,is another fave of mine, very disappointed that the song was edited, it's not like the video that expresses much more, when she says certain words that fit the video and song, and at the end she has a laugh on us, as in the end of Justify My love, where she is laughing at the end, in the hotel hall..

I can't understand why HOLIDAY was not on the videos either, one of her famous fun
songs..or Sooner or later where her range is different, would have loved a video for that song, and PLEASE LOVE ME, KEEP IT TOGETHER, are other songs that should have been on video..in this collection..

For Madonna's look back though, I gave it four stars because of some of the videos she included, but I feel Madonna herself didn't have as much say on this collection
as would have been, if they were all on her own label, and the videos wouldn't
be edited at all.I missed LOVE DON'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE too..

This collection reminded me of when her book, SEX just came out, and was a big hit everywhere, still is!

Sadly, my friend who died of Aids, left that book to me, and I think of him when I see it..he adored all her videos too! She has made so many people accept themselves for what they really are, so they can be real to themselves..

She left out one of her first dance songs too, EVERYBODY, she really looks so different in those baggy pants and vest,A very young Madonna..

The Madonna of today, is so well fashionable she changes with every tour, and sometimes with every new song, that's the secret to her being a true DIVA! Only Cher has accomplished that..

These videos all show her independance, the video, EXPRESS YOURSELF, allowed some women for the first time to feel their power, equal to men, sexually when she seems to always get what she wants, esp. that gorgeous guy in that video..who is in the Vogue video too.

The video of Deeper and Deeper, one of my faves, she really looks like a flower child, and when they did that photo shoot in the video, it shows another new look for her..the banana scene is so funny, I loved that scene..Madonna has a great sense of humor..

I'm amazed that Madonna is probably the best woman around,in her decade, that has the energy for all those videos, just watching Rain, is so visually fantastic, whoever directed that video had an eye to show Madonna at her best.

I highly recommend this dvd collection, it's a great look back at Madonna's vast work
since the eighties..and beyond.

Madonna Artpop at its best! Pop art often imitated but never duplicated!

Madonna has defined the MTV music video with her stylish and provocative button pushing. She has crafted more videos than any other female artist, she has earned the most MTV vma nominations, and has won the most MTV vmas of any artist. This collection shows how this one women force known simply as Madonna has impacted music, and with the music video created a whole new art form that forced every artist after her to realize a music video was just as important as the song itself. From her first video Everybody to her latest video Celebration, Madonna has been a constant on our radar for over 26 years and has grown up and evolved in front of all of us. Madonna pushed buttons with what she could get away with in a music video. Vogue had her exposing her breasts in a see through blouse which caused MTV to ask her to take the scene out, but Madonna refused and MTV eventually gave in, and had their first video showing nudity airing all hours of the day. Madonna pushed the boundaries a little too far with her next video and MTV did not give in to her Justify My Love video. MTV banned it all together because of its gay themes and her making out with another women far before girl on girl action became the in thing. Erotica pushed the boundaries a bit further as Madonna released her SEX book which had her naked from head to toe and expressing her sexual fantasies. The video Erotica was only aired 3 times on MTV and (with a disclaimer) that was after 12 midnight due to the sexual nature, and a Madonna hitchhiking nude scene at the very end. The What It Feels Like For A Girl video was released and MTV only played it one time before banning it completely due to its violent nature which was something we had never seen from Madonna. Her most controversial music video (and rarely seen) was the original version of American Life which came out when we had just went to war with Iraq. Madonna did something she had never done before and that was pulling the video right before its world premiere (due to death threats on her kids) on MTV and VH1. The video which took place on a runway and simulated war with people getting body parts blown up, along with a George Bush look a like kissing Saddam Hussein on the cheek. These are some of the music video highlights in Madonnas ever evolving music video career. Sadly like other artists before her, her art will not be fully be appreciated or understood until she is gone. Only then will people discover how ahead of her time and how truly visionary and what a work of art she was as herself.

Excellent Video Collection

Despite the haters, this is easily the most iconic and impressive video collection since Michael Jackson released his. You get 47 videos here across 2 DVD's. I think it was unusually generous to include 11 videos for songs that weren't on the Celebration album! True, like the album there are some songs conspicuously absent (most painfully obvious is "American Life"), but this set will not disappoint...too much...more on that later.

The video quality, for the most part, is good. I played it on a PlayStation 3 (upscaling via HDMI) on a 40" Sony Bravia XBR HDTV. With the exception of a 4 or 5 videos on disc 2, the video looked really good and I noticed no pixelation. The sound options on the DVD include 5.1 surround, but that's a joke. Still, even though it's just a slightly enhanced stereo mix, it's very clear and I have no complaints.

As far as content, there are some fantastic moments here. For the first time on home video, we're treated to videos such as "Into the Groove", "Crazy for You", "Who's That Girl", "Erotica", "Deeper and Deeper", "I Want You", "You'll See", "Don't Tell Me" among others. Plus, we get a video for "Miles Away" that has been released and practically never seen before, and we get the video for "Celebration". Also, "Get Together" is included, but it's the alternate version, which is nice to see. One glaring drawback is that the "Justify My Love" video does not feature any new footage despite what the DVD label says, and it does edit one scene (it shows black bars blocking a woman's breasts). Not sure why they did that, but it's not cool. Black bars are also present on the last scene of the "Erotica" video, but that's the way it's always been shown.

All in all, this is well worth it despite it's one or two flaws. You will never get a more impressive collection of truly groundbreaking videos ever. Madonna has truly revolutionized the music video medium and it certainly shows here. Fans of Madonna should not pass this up.
Picture quality almost bad few videos, otherwise a good collection!

I am a Madonna fan and like all the rest I love collecting cd's DVD's...I was so excited when I had placed the order. When I received the item I was actually disappointed regarding the omission of many of her good tracks like Bad Girl, Oh Father, Drowned World and a few others. Well the picture quality on the first 10 videos are really substandard. I was wondering did I really get a genuine copy. I dont know whether Warner Bros selected those videos or Madonna herself but truly Celebration doesnt depict her as a complete artist. A video collection of 3 decades should contain all her videos regardless of whether it hits the charts or not. This Used To Be My Playground is such a beautiful ballad, Bad Girl which is my all time fav from Erotica, American Life which created a lot of controversy. Madonna is not just a pop artist, she is a legend a controversy Queen, and we as fans would prefer to see her in that way. Apart from the omission it contains tracks in the chronological order and good for someone who hasnt listened to Madonna or just starting to explore her discography.

My favs on the DVD - All True Blue and Erotica videos, Justify My Love, Secret, Take A Bow, The Power Of Goodbye, Hung Up, Jump and Give It 2 Me.

I would say its better to buy The Immaculate Collection DVD and Videography 93:96. But for fans as a part of the collection, its a must!
She is an artist!

This body of work is far more complete than my cassettes and compact discs are. I never knew just how versatile and timeless this artist can be!
