Ad doesn't bother to mention $12 worth of necessary add-ons. Also, here's how i use it to deter cats.

Terrific device and well worth the price, but I've docked it two stars because the ad doesn't mention that you need to buy add-on screens a $5 each (or $12 for all 4) to make it work with various insecticides and other powders. The order form should be in the package. Without the proper screen, some powders may either clog the screen almost instantly or may come out in clumps instead of a fine spray. (If output seems to drop, I find that a sharp rap on the side will shake up the powder and restore full flow).
Aside from the obvious uses, I use this to repel cat pests from my garden and bird feeder. The chemical repellents either don't work very well or very expensive and need to be re-applied often, especially after rainstorms. I found the solution in ground cayenne pepper, which affects mammals but not birds. The pepper contains a lot of pepper oil (which is what makes it hot) and tends to clump badly so I mix it with some other appropriate dust (flour, diatomaceous earth, seven dust, etc.) and spray it one-cat-high throughout my garden and around the bird feeder and bird bath. This has to be replenished after it rains but the dustin-mizer makes that fast, easy, and cheap.
This is VERY effective with cats and also works to keep various other critters out of my tomatoes. However, I should note that some people claim that cayenne pepper, if ingested, can make cats very sick. I only favor this solution because none of these cats are tagged and the only other alternative is to take them to the pound where they will most likely be killed.
It goes without saying that you don't want to do any of this if there are kids or other pets running around the yard.
Also, unless you want to find out what it's like to be maced, you need to wear goggles and a mask made for fine dust (which you should be doing for any fine powder - ESPECIALLY insecticides - anyway).

To dust - stand in the OPPOSITE direction that the wind is blowing
pr✓ Verified Purchase•May 16, 2018
Excellent product because it disperses the dust you use in the direction you want. Make sure that you stand in the OPPOSITE direction that the wind is blowing toward. New gardeners forget this and get a face full of dust - this is dangerous. Think before you turn the knob to dust. I use this efficient product with or without the deflector - both ways work well. Here, the wind shifts a lot, so we must be ever cautious to test the wind by putting a little dust into the air to see which way the wind is blowing before we dust.
Great durable duster for a reasonable price

Our old duster finally fell apart, been looking for a replacement that wasn't too pricey. This is perfect. Takes a lot less dust and can easily get under and all around the plant. Since I know the cucumber beetles will be back it will get used a lot. The price is good. Very good quality.

Amazing product for the home vintner with an under-acre of vines that need sulfur treatment to prevent powdery mildew. All other products were either too small or too big for what I needed, leaving me to improvise with a leaf blower for a few years.
Using this Dustin-Mizer has saved me from wasting sulfur by concentrating a coverage-cloud both under the canopy (with the first pass) and down on top of it (with the second pass) utilizing the deflector.
My only complaint is that the handle is a little too small for my hand and after dusting 72 vines, the weight of the unit is really felt in the wrist. I will rig up a shoulder strap to support the weight for the amount of time I have to use it.
Be sure to get yourself a Tyvek jumpsuit, a mask and goggles to keep your body from coming in contact with the sulfur.

The cure for roaches!
Eugene✓ Verified Purchase•June 11, 2015
I've been using this duster about once a week for the last eight months to control roaches outside of my house. The short version is that using this with diatomaceous earth (DE) works very well. It dusts the paved surfaces around my home in a way that I couldn't do by hand. While I could really crank the thing and make a big cloud of dust, I prefer lightly cranking it to leave a nice coating of DE, especially on paved surfaces. The deflector aimed downwards works especially well on grass where I can really crank the handle and force a lot of DE down into the grass. I only recently started using the deflector when I started noticing lots of roaches in my lawn, but all the roaches were gone after doing this only one time. Unfortunately in my area it's impossible to permanently get rid of roaches because they'll creep back in from surrounding houses or even from undeveloped areas if given enough time, but they can be kept at bay with weekly dusting. My only issue with this duster is that the DE collects towards the front of the hopper, and I have to tilt the duster towards the sky and smack the hopper to get the DE to fall into the bottom of the hopper.
