I bought this for the watch that my grandmother gave my grandfather as a wedding present almost 100 years ago. The chain is very solid, but the clasps have a plastic feel to them. However, my magnet says that they are steel as well. Gold plating is holding up well and the chain looks impressive. This is the best chain that you will find at this price point.

I am pleased with this purchase. The chain is nicely plated with a good shine and matches the gold of my watch perfectly. The links seem well made and secure and the loops on either end appear strong and well made. Overall the chain has a nice heft to it. I use this in tandem with a leather watch holder and clip the large buckle around a belt loop. If you carry a pocketwatch I recommend you try this chain.

Don't be put off by the word "gold-plated" in the description! This is a monstrously big, heavy, brilliantly golden, museum quality and stunning pocket watch chain. It looks, feels, and exudes the likes of a solid gold chain. I have looked at watch chains, and have never seen anything that even slightly compares with this. The first inkling of what is to come is the elegant and ornate box containing the chain. It is an amazing set of three boxes, which open in three directions, finally revealing the chain. The box, itself, is a work of art. It is like a Tiffany creation - a box you will never part with. Then, when you first see this watch chain, you will like think you were sent a 22-karet gold chain, by mistake. This thing is glorious; it has massive links; but not in such a way as to look like any sort of imitation, but a creation that looks like a priceless treasure hidden underground in the Papal Palace of Vatican City. I could hardly bear to touch this chain, let alone remove it from its exquisite box. I finally did, with a quivering hand, but then quickly replaced it. I will likely just keep it in its box, as it is - because - as Shakespeare said about Juliet, it is "Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear."

I have a pocket watch that had belonged to my dad years ago and decided to get it running and carry it, but I didn't have a chain. I have only had this chain for about 1'week and so far so good. It is a nice looking chain and seems to be well made, but I really can't make definitive comments on the sturdiness or whether it will last just yet. As of now it seems like it will stand the test of time, but is too early to tell.
