I purchased this in the spring to check the temp on my Straw bale garden prior to planting. I also have a compost pile, and found out that I was not getting it hot enough, so this has been a very helpful tool, I purchased together with my DigHealth Soil PH Moisture meter. Both are a must have for straw bale gardening and Composting. DigHealth Soil PH/Moisture Meter, 3-in-1 Soil Testers (PH acidity, Moisture, Light) for Garden Farm, Indoor/Outdoor Plants, Scientifically Accurate Probe, Easy Read Indicator, No Need Batteries https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002P5RGMI/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=dponc733-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B002P5RGMI&linkId=c2eec4acd3d7ef470e4180847ff82004

I'm new to composting, well I've tried for years but was never successful. I finally got a barrel composter and did a lot of research. This little tool comes in handy, just poke it right into the pile for the temperature, and then the different zones tell you if your compost is too wet and you need to add browns, to dry and it needs water, etc. It has come in very handy for me, a semi-beginner.
thought my pile was really movin along until..

.. i got this and realized i needed to do better.. Great little tool..
I stopped adding on to pile.. i added some water and green to it..mixed well.. then all other stuff i put in pile next to it so the first pile could finish..
Also bought the corkscrew style turner on amazon WORKS GREAT.. that and this would make a great gift wor a new composter!!

This thermometer is of Great help in my being successful with my compost! It is a high quality product. The description was accurate. It was packaged well, and arrived on time. I would purchase it again.
Works great with the Geogobin composter system. I check mine with binoculars, from inside, LOL.

I use the Geogobin compost bins, way down in my yard. I stick this Reotemp in the side (choose a hole, there are hundreds) in a hole about half way down. It reaches to the center of the compost, almost perfectly. I take my binoculars to the kitchen window, and check the temp. Worked great for the first month, but now my compost is kind of done, so it's not as fun to look at. Over a week I watched it go from light green, to green, to grey (hot), then slowly back down. Turned it, with watering, and watched it do it again. Third time, and now I get about 60-70 degrees, so it's in it's final stages and will soon be a home for worms, till spring. I never realized how dead my compost piles were till I bought this thing. Very informative to check the temperature every week or so.
