Lasts Just A Week In My Mouse? Tell me It Ain't So, But It Is, It Is...

I bought the 48-pack 1/22/18 based on ratings and reviews on several websites in addition to Amazon, and I ran the Amazon reviews through FakeSpot and ReviewMeta to check for puffery. These Maxell batteries appeared to be the pick of the litter, but WOW! Either all those reviewers are delusional, or I received a specially selected box of non-rock deadheads.

I have used these batteries in my Apple Magic Mouse, nothing else, and in four months I have run through every last one of the 48. I am flummoxed, flabbergasted, fit to be tied.. I thought the various other brands I've used were short-lived, but they are Methuselan by comparison to these. I am truly amazed that a pair of batteries could discharge completely in a single week. End of batteries. End of story.
Died in the box in 6 months! Wasted $$!

I've never had batteries die on me this quickly when not in use. I want a refund!! This is the review I wrote when I first got them: I don't think these are as strong as they should be. I put one in something ( I forget now what it was) and it didn't work. I have a battery tester and tested it and it was a dud. So I tested all of them. All 48. Only that one was a dud but none of them made the little arrow on the charger go all the way over to the right, just slightly left of it. So I think maybe they are a little old. They should be good for smoke alarms and things that alert you when the battery is dead. Wouldn't buy them again though.

I've been systematically testing the best-selling aaa batteries on Amazon. So far, I've tested AmazonBasics, two types of Duracell, ACDelco, Rayovac, Energizer, and now Maxell. Maxell aaa's hang with the best in terms of capcity -- they're right up there with top-performing ACDelco and AmazonBasics (which one is actually best depends on discharge rate -- see the graph and table attached in the images), and they're the new runner-up in terms of value, besting AmazonBasics to be in second place to ACDelco. In the images I have attached two graphs and a table summarizing my test results for the 6 types I've tested. The graphs show value and absolute capacity, respectively, and the table contains my rwa data. If you'd like to know more about how I test ... on to the in-dept test & review.

My standard test procedure is to take 3 fresh batteries sourced from Amazon, all starting at approx. 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and discharge them in my Opus BT-C2000 battery analyzer at rates of 100 ma, 200 ma, and 400 ma (discharge rate affects usable capacity). I executed this procedure for these batteries, and the capacity at each discharge rate was:

Disch Rt | Capacity | Runtime | Sample use case
100 mA | 979 mAh | 9.2 hrs | Low-power LED flashlight
200 mA | 811 mAh | 3.9 hrs | Electronic toy / medium LED flashlight
400 mA | 696 mAh | 1.6 hrs | Motorized toy / bright LED flashlight

These batteries are the new top-performer in the high-drain test ('motorized toy / bright LED flashlight'), although the difference between these and ACDelco is probably within the margin of error. The also nearly matched the top performers in the low-drain test ('low-power LED flashlight'), and were just a bit below the best in the mid-drain ('electronic toy') test.

In terms of value, these the second best I've tested so far. Of the top-three value batteries (ACDelco, AmazonBasics, and these), I probably trust the AmazonBasics brand the most, and Maxell next, but if you want the absolute most power for your money, ACDelco is still at the top of the stack.

If you'd like to compare these Maxell batteries to the others that I've tested, I've linked the other products at the end of this review and also attached a summary graph and table in the images. To see my full reviews of the other products, go to the product review page and searching 'mah' under 'all reviews' (unfortunately Amazon doesn't allow direct linking to other reviews).

I have also tested the following batteries:

ACDelco AAA Super Alkaline Batteries, 48-Count
AmazonBasics AAA Performance Alkaline Batteries
Duracell Procell AAA Batteries PC2400BKD09
Duracell AAA Batteries Coppertop MN2400
Energizer MAX AAA Batteries
Rayovac Alkaline AAA Batteries

Quite frankly, I am a bit amazed by the number of good reviews for these batteries. When I first got these batteries, I thought to myself, is it my imagination or do these batteries really have a shorter than average life? I leaned towards it being my imagination. After replaceing the batteries about three times in my kitchen clock, I started to realize that it truly wasn't my imagination afterr all; these batteries really don't last that long. I began paying closer attention. Very low current draw devices like clocks, mice, remotes, etc. were all going through these batteries as if they all had slow current drains. So, after really paying attention and going through about 3/4 of the batteries in the box, I can acurately say these batteries last about 1/3 the life of your typical alkaline battery. Do yourself a favor and spend a tad more and buy yourself a better battery. I would believe that even the AmazonBasics batteries are better than these.
You can never have too many batteries. Great deal on quality batteries.

A person can never have too many batteries, especially living with all this awesome technology. All at once my batteries started to die and I ran out of batteries, so I needed a lot for a good deal.

These batteries are better than expected. They seem to hold a charge better/longer than the batteries I was previously using. My electric razor is now lasting a week longer than it when I used to using my old batteries. I needed a lot of quality batteries for a decent price and these Maxell batteries fit the bill.
