This is the original and best stuff to use for packing your faucets. Don't mess with that fake, horrible silicon stuff they sell in the big box stores.

I've been frustrated with the Danco graphite stem packing you find at Lowe's and Home Depot. That stuff is really mushy and just extrudes out of the packing nuts on my outside faucets. The heat in Texas may be partly to blame for that. I recognized this BrassCraft packing as a bit old-fashioned, which is exactly what I wanted. It's pricey, but it did the job - no more leaks, and it's holding up with lots of use on those faucets.
