Simple tool, works good as long as you don't need to do heavy work on it.
Had a tough time finding out how to fix this onto my normal flat-table !

How to : Wood and the clamp come separate when you receive. Insert non-screw-end of the clamp through non-v-slot-hole and push the clamp metal as far as it goes in the grove. That is it - now you can clamp it onto your table like any other clamping tool.

The block is hard maple about 7/16ths of an inch thick. Inletted for the clamp that comes with it. Provides a stable surface to work on with a jeweler's saw or fret saw. This should last a long time and is a perfect accessory for the craftsman, woodworker, and jeweler. Not as sturdy as a bench block proper but for the beginner to intermediate, this is a very convenient item and fits onto table tops half inch to 1 5/8ths inch thick.

Was skeptical about buying this, but my fears have been proven wrong. The clamp works great, but it only opens about 1-3/4th an inch. So, if your bench is 2' thick like mine if, this clamp will NOT fit onto it! I was able to mount mine elsewhere, so it wasn't a huge setback, but still a potential concern for the unknowing buyer.
I have no clue why this thing is advertised as plastic, since it is obviously made of wood in the picture, and when I got it... yep, it's made of wood.
Great product, especially for beginners.
edit - Still using it over two years later, and it is still as useful as new, even with all the cuts, carve-outs and knicks I've put in it, intentional and otherwise. A great value!

I purchased this for my work table as I do not yet own a proper jeweler's bench. This clamp is easy to use and works for all of my filing, cutting, and drilling needs at the present time. Clamp stays right where I want it however, I have read that on some surfaces, it will move. I would recommend using a small piece of rubber or latex between the wood and your table to prevent slippage.

Great basic tool and easily portable. The depth of the clamp is fairly accurate. You will need to protect surfaces from the metal clamp--will work best on wood, I think. I am using it on a mid-century enameled table that has wood corner blocks under the table surface. I keep space between the side of the clamp and the edge of the table. This has worked well. Definitely needs good height and enough non-slip surface to allow the clamp plenty of leverage. Cons: the pin could be a little thicker, the clamp was a little difficult to slide through the hole and into position, the "V" is cut a little wider than I would like.
