Take it from a pro... don't cheap-out now. It matters.

I do this for a living. I don't buy dollies at Home Depot, I only buy Magliner. I'm a 14 year FedEx Ground guy. I can carry well over a hundred pounds to the third floor without much trouble, so when I pull out the dolly, it's because I'm about to hump something really heavy up some stairs. 300 lbs isn't uncommon, and this dolly set-up can take it. Rails are the only way to do it. The plastic skidders can be replaced on the cheap, but if your dolly doesn't have these "hump rails," you're working too hard. While you're getting these rails, get a 24" drop bar for the front, (30" is too long and it'll bend at about 300 lbs) some baseball bat grip tape for the handle and a Magliner bag to attach to the back of the dolly. You're looking at $35/$35/$20 so... $90 and you'll look like you know what's up. That tip is free.

got to have this for stairs

The stair climber kit is well made and truly uncomplicated. Though I am sure that some trucks are already equipped with a plate that this will directly mount too, mine did not. I had to drill and tap a hole in the wheel mount flange plate to accommodate the arms. I also thought of enlarging the mounting hole to slide the axle direct to the arms. This would probably work well, however, the hole would come dangerously close to the edge when enlarging it. Rather than risk cracking the aluminum casted arms, I drilled the solid mounting plate and tapped it for a shorter 5/16 X 3/4 bolt. It all worked well and so far is operating fine.

Really like this add-on and the Magline HMK117UA4 Aluminum Hand Truck I purchased to use it with. Was great when moving into our upstairs condo.
