Final installation
MR•August 12, 2017
Have installed on a Silverado 1500 and determined I need the cable extension to connect the supplied speaker in the truck cab. No way provided cable would reach. Called Hopkins at 800-835-0129 Monday and spoke with very nice agent that said he would ship out 10' cable extension tomorrow and should have by Friday, no charge. South Carolina license tag does not fit within sensors and had to trim top left and right corners. No problem for SC tag. Additionally, unit fit into space provided on truck bumper for license tag bottom clearance. Sensor operation on plastic kitchen size trash can behind truck; 1st slow beep-65-67", 2nd faster beep-41-42", 3rd faster beep-30-32", 4th solid beep 16-18".
does what it is supposed to do and does it quite well

have this on a rouge 2015 that my mom drives, and don't understand why this isn't standard on all cars with a backup camera. What you need to do is call the dealer or look on a forum to see which wires you need to hook up to on your reverse lights and your done. As for how it works its great, but don't trust it on the extreme outer edges of your bumper, but that is why you have mirrors . It will pickup most objects very well and is a quality product
Great Back Up Sensor

I needed a sensor to compliment a back up camera on a Sienna van. Thia product was the perfect answer. Get someone to help you figure out which is the rear backup wire harness. A tester comes in handy. Then I drilled a simple hole through the trunk lift gate and used silicone caulk to make it water tight. Ran the wire through the hole, attached to backup wire, then snaked the speaker wire through the side trim panels in the trunk. Since I wanted to move the speaker more forward in the cabin, I called Hopkins, gave them the model number and they shipped for free an extension wire. It actually arrived before the back up sensor! Attach the license plate, adjust the sensors and your done. It has two settings for volume. The sensor will chirp about 4-5 feet from an object located directly behind vehicle, chirp faster at 2-3 feet and sound a loud single tone at about 1 foot. It does not pick up objects as well that are located to the side of the vehicle. However, for this price, it may well prevent a back up accident say in a parking lot.
Better than a backup camera

these actually are better than a backup camera in my opinion. My previous backup camera was notoriously inaccurate with the lines indicating the distance to obstacles. I also did not like that I had to alternate looking behind the car and looking at the display on the dash when backing up.
With this system you just look behind as you back up, and you get a warning of objects behind you that are hidden from your vision. The range extends to the sides enough to warn of errant garbage cans and poles in the dead spots too. They are an easy but not a trivial install - you need to know what you are doing with wiring.

Great Safety Addition

Highly recommend if you're looking for a cheap, easy way for assistance when in reverse. Works perfectly as described. Alarm has 2 settings, low and high. Installation would be easier if you don't care how it looks, but spend a little more time and it'll be worth it. You will have to drill one hole though to feed the wire into the trunk; try to find a plastic piece (usually where the optional camera would've been). I wish the slots behind the sensors for the plate were bigger to accomodate for frames. I ended up taking time to use a drumel to make the slot bigger.
