Worst purchase I ever made
donMay 13, 2018
Worst purchase I ever made . I am new to hydroponics and thought paying more for this meter would be better. Wrong don't know if it was ever 100% correct , used it all summer and found I was having to use more and more ph down in my systems through the growing season and then it seemed like stuff stopped growing like it was supposed to. This is all in a climate controlled greenhouse. I purchased some calibration fluid and found it needed calibrated every time I used it . Still had to use ph down. At one year old it stopped calibrating so I purchased a new probe still would not calibrate. Called Hanna and they said it's out of the one year warranty but for $95 they would look at it and tell me what it would cost to fix . Purchased a different product and found out my ph has been wrong all along . My well water and nutrients mixed keeps my ph perfect at 6.0 without any ph down. A older gentleman that got me started in hydroponics told me don't rely on digital meters , lesson learned, strips and drops are the way to go may take a little longer but they don't LIE .

I've owned this for a month and it works great. Don't forget to get pH buffer solutions for calibration and TDS ppm calibration solution(for total dissolved solids). Also, be sure to store in storage solution to preserve the cell membrane of the sensor.
Don't Buy this, Not sure it's a legitimate Hanna PH Pen

Ok, this is the 2nd Hanna combo pen I have owned. I have been a professional hydroponic grower for over ten years. I consider this one of the best all in one pen's that you can get. With that said....I had to return my first one as it did not work at all! You couldn't even calibrate it. The return process was very easy, and amazon quickly sent out a replacement. So far so good with the replacement, although I am still suspicious that this is not a real Hanna pen and could be a knockoff. I intend to contact Hanna to check, and will update if necessary. The only other reason I can think of why the original pen didn't work would be that these do not come with ANY storage lubrication as they should. Even my second one was dry as a bone upon arrival and will most certainly affect the life of the pen. No PH meter should EVER be sent with-ought storage solution keeping the electrode safe and usable. All and all I wouldn't risk the purchase. I need this for work and don't have the time to return it again, and my local store is out of stock so i'm stuck. If you buy this make sure you test and recalibrate the ph every week.
PH probe is horrible and expensive to replace!

Very expensive and hard to calibrate PH side. I now only use this probe for TDS/EC and temp readings. The PH tip was such a pain to deal with I went out and bought a dedicated PH meter for that reading alone. For starters, you have to keep the tip soaking in PH Storage Solution. The solution will eventually evaporate even with the cap on so be prepared to keep buying bottles of storage solution. As for calibrating.... Well lets just say, be prepared to spend some quality time with this meter. The calibration becomes more time consuming as the probe ages as will the reading times. I used to spend up to 5 minutes waiting on the reading to stabilize! And, your readings will vary wildly sometimes causing your accuracy to suffer. This unit must be plagued by the same lack of quality you get in FAX/Printer/Copy Machine. Nothing is great on it, but you do have it all. I prefer my Oakton Ecotestr PH meter @ $70 which you can store dry, and it holds its easy to perform calibration for several weeks!
expensive piece of junk

This meter is quite horrible. First one that I bought arrived with dry pH electrode and worked more or less OK for about 3 months and then broke. Amazon refused to take it back so I contacted Hanna and got a warranty replacement ( ~1 week turnaround ). The replacement meter as received won't hold calibration for more than an hour so I had to calibrate it before each measurement wasting calibration solutions, which aren't exactly cheap.

It is now unable to complete the calibration and therefore useless. I'm no stranger to pH meters and this instrument is flawed - do not buy it!
