Wow, not what i expected. I am a new banjo player and know hardly anything about banjos. I purchased this banjo to see if i liked playing. I figured i would buy a cheap banjo and if i like it, get a better one. Well i found this one for very very cheap (compared to other banjos) and expected a cheaply made banjo. I was shocked to see what appears to be a decent made instrument. It looks better than i hoped. The sound is even pretty good. Only been playing a few days and already have some tunes coming out of it. Im sure ill have to get a better banjo one day but not as soon as i expected, this one will hold me for a while. I would highly recommend this as a beginner banjo that is well worth what they are charging.
Superb Quality and a great sounding banjo!

Its been a longtime dream of my girlfriend to play banjo. I am a drummer and guitarist but know very little about banjos. The research I did on this particular banjo lead me to buy it. It arrived today and I am impressed. First off it was very well packaged to insure it arrived damage free. I know I saw other reviews here that said the banjo had a different name on it. The one I received today is from and displays the name R.W Jameson on it. This is a quality musical instrument that is well constructed with quality materials. The wood finish is superb and the banjo has a beautiful sound. I did have to tune her which is to be expected and had no issues doing so. I used a Snark that I keep handy for my guitars. For others out there without a digital tuner, you can find free online banjo tuners that will get you going. My girlfriend absolutely loves it and is finding it difficult to put it down. I would highly recommend this banjo to anyone looking for a quality instrument at an entry level price. You wont be disappointed.

Great first banjo. I've out about 12 hours on it and it sounds and looks great.

Update: after 100 hours on it
This is a good banjo to learn on for sure, Ive put in about 2 hours a day on it and more on the weekends and starting to really make progress. Im now seeing where this has certain limitations. It does stay in tune for the most part and the quality is good as ive had no issues with it. I picked up another banjo that a friend had and 2 things i noticed right away, 1. this banjo is heavy , the other banjo is about 4 lbs lighter and much easier to control, 2. the sound out of the banjo (a deering good time 2) was amazing. It made eveything sound better. I havent purchased another banjo yet but I will at some point when funds become avail. I am still very happy with the purchase and still play it everyday but you will want to upgrade when you really start to play fast and get better. Still 5 stars as you simply cant beat the price for this entry level banjo.
I think the Jameson is very good. I should say that my main banjo is ...

I purchased this as a "knockabout" instrument to keep in my office at work so I can practice during lunchtime. For a practice or a beginner instrument, I think the Jameson is very good. I should say that my main banjo is a much more expensive instrument, and there is a definite difference in the sound between the two. However, the Jamison impressed me with the quality of the workmanship. Fret ends are well dressed and the setup is pretty good right out of the box. The action could be slightly lower but that's a simple adjustment and there is instructions on their website explaining how to do it. Anyone who wants to play banjo is going to have to learn how to adjust it.

This banjo is easy to play, has a pleasant sound and will fit the bill as a 2nd practice banjo perfectly. I believe that anyone who wants to learn banjo but isn't sure they want to spend a lot of money or just someone who has a tight budget will be very happy with the Jamison Banjo.
