Used this product on my completely black with tarnish silver trumpet. Used two pads because it was so
tarnished. Don't forget that each silver piece must touch each other. Tarnish began evaporating immediately before my eyes. Used hot water from the tap - the water heater is set about 120 degrees.
Have added an after picture after 4 days. Tarnish has not returned, nor have I done any other work with silver polish. Sorry I didn't think to take a before picture because honestly, I didn't think the product would work. It did!!!

Clearly, a lot of users do not understand electrolysis. The black on silver is primarily silver sulfide. When you put silver in hot water with an electrolyte in contact with aluminum, the sulfur on the silver moves to to the aluminum and you get elemental silver back. For this to work, a (very small) current needs to be able to flow between the silver and the aluminum. This requires the silver to be in contact with the aluminum (either directly or through other silver pieces). Individual items can look like they are in contact but be insulated by various materials on the silver so there is no conduction and no cleaning.
To avoid this, wash all of the silver in detergent first, rinse it well and then use the silver cleaner. This is especially important with old pieces that may have accumulated coatings from the air or for jewelry, which is probably coated with various oils.
If jewelry tarnishes rapidly, it means that the wearer's skin is slightly acidic or has sulfur in it. Sweat has both properties. Find some jewelry protection coating to reduce the rate of discoloration.
Incidentally, increased C02 concentration in the atmosphere makes humidity more acidic, driving faster discoloration of a silver service just sitting around.

I was very skeptical about using this product; cleaning silverware by just putting it in the water! Are used two packets the first time and was very disappointing as nothing really work! Today I use three packets, and my silverware turned out beautifully; even the really big pieces. I'm absolutely thrilled and highly recommend this product as it saved my great grandmothers silverware.
