NOT A LIFE JACKET!

This is NOT a life jacket. It is a buoyancy device. Do not purchase this as a life preserver for a young child that cannot flip onto their back, or their face will be submerged in water with their backs up. We bought this by mistake, and the inside label says buoyancy device. That wasn't in the description so I just wanted to make the buyers aware.

Bought this life jacket for a 10 lb, 2 month old preemie. Fit well, not too loose. With baby's short neck the front poked the chin when we had the neck collar positioned above the jacket liked a pillow. We solved that problem by folding the neck collar down in the back (flat across shoulders and upper back) so that baby's back was laying on the neck collar.

This seems to be a very well made life jacket. However, instead of using it for boating, I tried to use it with a one-year old in a swimming pool which did not turn out that well. The vest is designed to keep the baby floating on his back with his head above water, whereas I wanted the baby to float vertically in a manner similar to what would have been achieved with water wings. That was my mistake and not the fault of the vest.
This product works best if used for its intended purpose of protecting a baby while on a boat and not floating in a swimming pool.

Doesn't keep the head up

Sadly, I found that our toddler kept flipping over onto her stomach when wearing this flotation device. Rather than keeping her head out of the water, it basically did the opposite. This is reportedly "coast guard approved", so not sure what to make of this. On the upside, was pretty easy to grab the strap at the top to keep her head up, but this design seems flawed when applied to real toddlers in real life.

Exactly what I was looking for. We have a pool and my 15 month old loves playing on the steps and being in the water, but doesn't like a baby tube/flotation device. This put him on his back when floating (it does not for all). We are (of course) right next to him in the pool but this gives him slightly more freedom to enjoy himself.
