Awesome reel for the money.

I like spinning reels, and for the last 5 years I have been loading mine with spectra/kevlar braided line.
Now if you get a big fish on and it is screaming line out and you need to adjust your drag. You have to get your fingers very very close to that line to adjust it. With a good sized fish on the far end that light is tight, and moving fast. Brush up against it and it is almost like feeding a finger into a saw. It can burn, cut, slice your skin quickly.

So I like rear drag reels, but rear drag spinning reels seem to be going out of style.

So when I noticed these I thought this is a good chance to get 2 more solid rear drag reels in my box of gear.

I was not expecting a lot from a 15$ reel, even one with Shimano's name on it. Boy was I surprised.
This reel is solidly built, silky smooth from drag, to reeling, to tripping the bail after casting. Smooth is the word that describes it top to bottom. No vibration, no wobble, no hickups, no problems. Just quiet smooth performance. Which is what you want.

Now I don't know how long this reel will last. It is winter up here in the Dakota's, it will be May before I start fishing.
If this reel fails before September you can bet you'll hear about it from me. But I don't think it will.
Great cheap little reels

Great cheap little reels. Love the positioning at the top of the reel where I can always hook the line with my finger. Quick fire levers are great but they do wear after a while. Need some cleaning & a little lube. Drags work fine. Not as smooth running as more expensive ball bearing reels but I don't find that a problem at all. With these, I can have several rods and reels set up with different baits ready to go at all times and I like that. Also when I break off I don't need to re tigh. I just put it down and pickup another rod and go.
I like the Shakespeare Wild Series rods with these. They are not expensive yet they perform well. 7' ultra light, 7' med./light, 7' medium action

Have 2 of these in the 4000r size and they are great. Got the 1st one because I wanted a cheap reel for my cheap telescopic mako rod from wal-mart. I got the 2nd one as part of a cheap combo for catching pink salmon. I am amazed at how well these reels have worked. I used it as a quick travel rod for fun when I travel for work. Caught plenty of rock fish and bottom fish and thought I was pretty happy with that. Then a friend suggested we try salmon fishing and it worked out great. At first I was able to catch pink salmon off a kayak no problem with this cheap shimano reel and rod combo less then $30 cdn. I then replaced the mono with heavy braid and went after larger salmon in the rivers. I tried learning how to cast with a more expensive baitcaster but realized I am better with a light tackle setup so I went back to this reel after putting on 40lb braid and paring it with a 9ft GX2 ugly stick. With that combo I have successful float fished wool and jigs and casted spinners for coho and large chum salmon out of the rivers. I love the rear adjustable drag and am able to change it while battling fish. This thing is like the Toyota/Honda of the fishing reel world. Good for salt and fresh water. Almost no maintenance and it works every time. Honestly I was thinking of buying a more expensive reel as I seem to be getting more and more into salmon fishing but honestly this thing won't brake on me and is so easy to use. I know many say you can be more accurate casting with a bait caster but I have gotten so good with it I can even cast sideways under tree branches on the Chilliwack river etc. I don't really care about the looks I get from others when river fishing while they cast with $300-$400 bait-casting setups. I'm still catching lots of fish with its and its so easy that my wife has no problem hauling in 20lb Chums that are fighting like mad. With the bigger fish you will have to adjust your drag as you fight them to let them wear themselves out but you will land your fish if you take your time.
