ideal for my unfinished firebox. it was NOT overly hard to install, but did require some yoga to make it fit. also be sure to use correct drill bits for YOUR situation... buy two bits, one smaller for pilot and another for finished... in my case, a small pilot for brick, then tapcon for the larger hole.
everything fit well and makes a big difference in finished appearance.

As easy as you can make it.

The Rod and Valance Kit work as advertised, and are about as easy as you can make it. One negative, which is not the fault of Condar is that there is not going to be anything quick about installing this product. I had never worked on a fireplace before, and this project opened my eyes as to how tough firebrick, steel, and porcelain tile is.
I bought a brand new hammer drill and brand new drill bits, one to drill steel, and one to drill masonry, as stated as required in the excellent Condar installation manual. There are four holes that need to be drilled in masonry to install this product. The upper two holes i had to go through thick steel and fireblock. The side two holes, i had to drill through porcelain tile and fireblock.
For those who have never drilled through steel, porcelain tile, or fireblock before, plan on a good 10-20 minutes per hole of solid drilling with a hammer drill to get the hole deep enough to put your tapcon in. That is no including any breaks that you will take because your arms and hands WILL go numb quickly using the hammer drill.
Great product, but it is a bear to install. Condar has made it as easy as they can!

Dear God was this a pain to install. Albeit it was no fault of the valence. I used a hammer drill with brand new bits to get through the mortar surrounding my fireplace. Along the top i had to drill through steel. (again, buy brand new bits if you have this). After installation it has worked great and looks perfect but for an average DIY it was more painful than finishing my entire basement!
DO NOT BUY - CHEAP CONSTRUCTION

Horrible. Installer spent 2 hours trying to make it work. Can't make bar level so the mesh swings to the middle. And they won't let me return it because by the time the installer got here it was beyond the return policy.
The valance is adjustable and with the matching mesh screen it works like a charm

This worked very well in our fireplace. The valance is adjustable and with the matching mesh screen it works like a charm. The operation of the curtain is very smooth.
