Great, but always buy the 4" diameter
BabeRighteous✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 14, 2023
We have a 10 pound dog and bought the 3" diameter ball. She loves it so much she prefers to eat her dinner by playing with the ball instead of eating it out of her bowl. However, after a month of the ball rolling under all of the furniture (sofas, end tables) and getting stuck, we ordered the 4" ball instead. It does not get stuck under furniture and the dog is just as happy.
Great mental stimulation

Great for my border collie puppy. It is surprisingly durable seeing as it has been slammed into walls and couches on many occasions. The design and size make it "slippery" enough that they aren't able to "chew" on it to get the treats. I bought two more so all my pups could enjoy the shenanigans! It is a bit loud on hardwood floors, but it helps me know where they are playing :)
It took some training but, finally, she plays!

My 45 pound, five-year-old Catahoula mix (shelter rescue when she was about 18 months), Izzy, has never liked toys and is completely food motivated. She's pretty smart, tends to bolt her treats, and and has jaws like a great white shark (she can demolish a 12" bully stick in about 20 minutes flat). After years of trying to get her interested in something even remotely resembling play, I bought her one of these 5" IQ Treat Balls along with a bag of Zuke's Mini Naturals Dog Treats Roasted Chicken Recipe, 16-Ounce . I almost gave up on this toy at first because Izzy wouldn't play with it, but I kept at it and now it's one of her favorite pastimes. (She'll ditch the ball if a squirrel runs past the sliding door but, really, who wouldn't?)

The day it arrived, I gave it a quick wash with mildly soapy water to get the factory smell off of it, filled it with treats, put the interior disc on the easiest (i.e., widest) setting and put it on the floor in front of her. Nothing. I kicked it at her. Nothing. I positioned it hole-down on the floor in a way that would ensure a treat would come out as soon as it rolled, called her over, and then tapped it with my foot. Her ears went up, she ate the treat, and then stared at me with her "do it again" face on. I did it again. She ate the treat and gave me the look. Third time, I positioned it, stepped back, and told her "go ahead." She nudged it with her nose, and scarfed the treat. She batted it again. Nothing came out, so she snorted and walked away. I tried several times to get her interested, but it kept turning into "you do it, Ape, and I'll eat the treat." After about 20 minutes, I gave up.

The next evening when I got home from work, I decided to try again. This time, I removed the interior disc so the treats would flow freely and only put about 15 treats in the ball. After a couple of times of me nudging the ball with my foot, Izzy started nudging it herself, getting a treat almost every time. Within 30 minutes, she had it figured out and had emptied the ball. Over the next couple of weeks I made it increasingly harder for her to get a treat. I started by putting the disc back in but leaving the dispenser hole on its widest setting. Then, every few days I narrowed the hole a little until it was just barely wider than one of the Zuke's treats. It now takes Izzy the better part of an hour to empty the ball but she sticks at it, chasing the ball all over our apartment and wrestling with it between her paws (those depressions on the clear side of the ball make good claw-holds for her) until she can't hear a single treat rattling around inside. She then flops down at my feet, exhausted and satisfied.

The only issue I've had with the IQ treat ball was that the second or third time I filled it I tightened the halves too strongly and had a bear of a time unlocking them again (I had to insert a pair of needlenose pliers in the outer hole and open them in order to apply torque). That was my fault, though, and since I learned that lesson it hasn't happened again.

So, five stars. It took some training to get her to play with it, but now Izzy can't get enough of her IQ Treat Ball. She has fun with it, it gives her her favorite reward (food), and it has proven durable so far.
Worth a chance

We have a 7 month puppy and he loves this product. He spends a lot of time trying to get the food out.
