My 9 year old had been begging for a slide whistle, and despite some negative reviews, I decided to give this one a shot (based mostly on price).
Oh, the disappointment when he tried this out! It was almost completely air sound, barely any whistle at all. I didn't expect perfection from a plastic whistle, especially at this price, but this simply didn't work at all.
I ended up returning it and buying the American Plating version. Yes, it's about 4 times as much, but now he's got a solid metal slide whistle that sounds great and will hold up well. Definitely a case of "you get what you pay for".

Firstly, I understand the product is only a few dollars. That being said, the slide will only make sound about half way down the length of it. The rest is a high pitched whistling noise. I got this to use with 4K-5K students to show them differences between high and low sounds. It was going to be a fun way for them to use their voices but that was ruined because the whistle can't do the only job. It is cheaply made, which i'm fine with for the price. However, it should at the very least still be fully operational, even if only for a few uses.

The whistle itself is sturdy, but the plug at the end leaks a lot while sliding. As a result when you pull the slide down the note starts high, then goes low, and then high, not the sound I wanted as I was planning on using it for a science lesson to show how the length of the tube influences the note.
I was able to send this in for a full refund, a bit of a pain for a $5 object, but I was that determined to get my money back.

What a fantastic gift this was. Ever since seeing the SpongeBob slide whistle episode we were obsessed with this. Of all the various high tech gifts handed out at Xmas time, this probably came out as the favorite. This is a solid little whistle that shows no signs of degradation in quality in spite of its constant use over 2 weeks. So far so good. You can't help but smile/laugh when someone plays a slide whistle. A great little gift for kids of any age!

The first one I ordered, it was larger and worked perfectly. I ordered 3 more, and they are small and don't work correctly. Will be returning most likely, depending on how much the return shipping costs.
