It is a pretty unique tool. I am using a hand post hole digger due to the fact I am working in a nervous area-I am nervous because the area I am working has a high potential for an unwanted surprise. By doing it by hand I have complete control of the digging very slowly and carefully-this tool makes an arduous task a lot easier and it appears to be a lot more efficient than the clamshell type which I also own
Tool is good for 38/39"-frost line where I live is 42" I am sure I can wing it for 3" I believe the clamshell also has similar limitations.
At the end of the day it is a good tool and I would buy it again

I couldn't find this type of hand auger anywhere, not in the major home improvement stores nor in the smaller hardware stores. But this comes from the UK, (so the shipping is a little steep), it is sturdy and works very well. I'm happy with it and would order it again.

Excellent auger-type post hole digger that is hard to find. This one is well constructed and has a very well designed handle that is beefy enough to take the torque thats required to use it effectively.
