Piece of Crap!!! Flimsy, waste of money!!!

I have had a bamboo gate I purchased from Pet Smart 20 years ago, I think in was manufactured by Safety First, I still have it and it works like it did the first day I purchased it. Unfortunately it is too small for the space I need so I decided to buy a wider gate. I picked this model because it is similar to the one I already have. First the clamp that holds the two pieces of wood together was impossible for me to separate, I had to get my husband to do it for me and he even had a hard time. Second, I had corralled my grandchildren in my family room and needed to get in there to get them ready for lunch, and I went to separate the wooden pieces to release the spring action and the darned wooden bar broke in half! This was the first time I use the gate and it needs to go in the trash. Piece of crap!!!! Do not buy!!!
You're rolling the dice on this one, but if you get lucky, it's a pretty good gate.

The gate is shipped in only its branded outer box, which is in NO WAY suitable for what may happen to it in transit. Like others, mine arrived with the adjuster bars snapped in half even while there was very little sign of damage on the outside box. The wood is soft and cheap, and will not hold up to anything approaching rough treatment. When you order this gate, I'd say there's a pretty good chance yours will come busted in the same way.
So why 2 stars instead of one? I am not in a position to have returned the gate, so instead I repaired it as best I could and put it to use. Had it arrived whole and unbroken I'd be giving this product 4 stars easily - it's huge, and exactly what I needed to keep my older cat contained to just one part of the house. Most cats won't jump so high to get over something - they want something to land on before they drop down. As long as you have no higher surface nearby they can use to leap the fence, it should work pretty well for that purpose.
If yours arrives undamaged, anyways. Good luck.

Then with virtually no effort the outer frame broke and the locking bar snapped like balsa wood

Didn't use it for a while after we bought it. When we finally took it out of the box it felt very cheap and flimsy. We were moving the locking bar around a bit to see how smooth it would operate and it jammed. Then with virtually no effort the outer frame broke and the locking bar snapped like balsa wood. And this wasn't in a door frame with pressure on it. This was in the middle of the room while we were seeing how smoothly it would operate. Should have sent it back but it had been several weeks since we bought it and we didn't have the shipping receipt anymore.
Maybe Not the Best Choice

This gate is tall enough that my cats won't try jumping over it -- or on it. The mesh is sized in a way that makes it (at least for my cats -- so far) unclimb-able. The action is not good -- it doesn't slide open and closed very well. In fact, I have to use my foot to move the bottom and my hand to move the top, otherwise, it won't open/close. The space you put the gate in needs to be just a touch narrower than that of any of the lock widths in order to provide enough tension to keep the gate in place (the locking increments are spaced at around 3/4"). In my case, it doesn't work. We put felt pads on the rubber stoppers to increase the width of the gate enough to keep it in place. I wouldn't count on the gate to keep a large dog (or heavy child) in/out -- a good, forceful push will displace the gate. The action issue mentioned earlier makes it a pain to put the gate up and take it down. If your space is just right, you have small/light animals, and you don't need to move the gate often, it's decent. It is very inexpensive -- you get what you pay for.
Nice height, sturdy, great price

I own 2 of these now. They come in handy with bigger, energetic dogs. Taller height is great, the mesh is a coated wire - very sturdy. My first one is a few years old & has held up very well, still looks/works great. I just prop mine up now in the doorways to block my big, anxious dog from running through the house, obsessing about animals out back, or my neighbor next door. I used to adjust it & stick it inside the door frame everytime, but now he knows that if I've propped it up in the door way - he isn't going through it. Helps me control his anxious (annoying) behavior.
