Best product I've found so far, but not quite perfect

This product does the job, and I use it every day. There is a built in carriage for the drive that is attached to a mechanism that moves with the door. It is the best solution I've seen so far for removable drives. It's rugged, has a great display on the cover, with three choices for fan speed, and even my WD black drives (which run hot) are kept cool.
I don't really like the latch mechanism that closes the cover (it's plastic and has two prongs which appear to work but I wonder how long they will last).
I also think there should be some kind of mechanism to close the cover automatically. Ideally this should work like a CD.
I'd give it 5 stars but I still think the overall design concept could be improved - but this product remains the best I've used or seen and I'm quite satisfied.

even though I ordered via Amazon.com direct and not one of the listed 3rd party sellers and Amazon.com said I would have to wait upto 3 weeks before this would ship, this was delivered to my door well before I was even expecting it arrive; I love how Amazon.com under promises and over delivers.
The Vantec drive rack appears to be a great product so far, I love how it has some mass to it's construction; as I was figuring it to be very lightweight and cheaply built, but its a solidly built piece of equipment (not including the front plastic face-plate/ejection lever).
And I was happily surprised to find a 24" SATA cable included with the unit saving me from having to specially buy a new cable.
If I experience any problems, I will try to remember to update this review.

In addition to this dock, I bought models from DShot and Startech. All work well, but I think the DShot model is best because it was cheapest, included two cables and insulator pads, and the LED is not overpoweringly bright like the other two. On the positive side, the latch is better on this one, and you only need one power cable. Even though this is a dual bay, it only comes with one insulator pad. If you're using SSD this is not an issue.

So disappointed, this purchase was to replace an identical unit that had a fan failure after 13+ years of heavy us; I expected longer! ;-) Just kidding, this bay has done what it was designed to and had held up very well for all that I have put it through. When the fan failed, the bay alerted me to it by beeping (would be nice to have been able to silence it after discovering the problem) so that I could get a replacement ordered; please note that the drive was accessible at all times. Swapped out the old one for the new one in a matter of minutes and everything was back to normal. I sure hope this new one lasts longer than the last one! ;-)

i'm impressed - mechanically and design wise this thing is a quality built unit. Opening the door, there's a small arm (spring loaded) that pushes the drive out to you - super easy to work & use. The convenience of being able to pop in or swap out 2.5" drives is just hitting home as i've got a load of 2.5 HDD and SSDs. You'll need two Sata ports to connect to, as this requires one for each drive. Even the lock mechanism on the doors (one lock per) is a quality design, unfortunately i don't need it in a home environment, but in an office, it would come in handy. it came with two sata cables and two molex to sata power adaptor Y cables. Well thought out and executed product
