Desoldering Wick

This is a must have if you do soldering. Very helpful in removing excess solder. Very satified with product.

Worked well enough for me when desoldering some capacitors and paired with a pump, but that's all I used it for and all that I probably will use it for. It cleaned the pads up of solder fairly well, but did leave some burnt flux on the board. I don't really care about that, so 5/5.
VERY POOR QUALITY. The braid is extremely loose

VERY POOR QUALITY. The braid is extremely loose, so the wick doesn't hold it's shape, but becomes round and narrows down to less than 1 mm as it comes off the spool. And, when attempting to de-solder through-hole components, the loose weave causes it to get caught on the leads. Even worse, there isn't nearly enough flux on the braid, so the solder melts but is not absorbed by the wick. In fact, I don't think my spool had any flux, as there was virtually no absorption at all. It simply doesn't work!

Defective product, producing No results, and was MISSING over 4 foot of the product - LESS Than 1 foot was on the spool!!
I received this item on this past Saturday, but didn't attempt to use it until Monday 5/19 after I'd received a ST7 & ST8 weller tips. The job I needed to do with this product is fairly simple... circuit board remove solder from 14 pins/joints to replace a component. I'm very cautious, take my time when I'm dealing with circuit boards as to not damage them.
So, I started the process. I tried a bit of the wick, as soon as I would touch it with my iron the braid was already coming apart. I tried it from several different angles, putting it on the side, and/or on the top of the pin, then apply my iron tip. The braid would immediately loosen and come apart, I'd cut that piece off my braid & continue. (The ST7 tip has a really nice, fine conical tip by the way.) The braid would Simply not hold together long enough to really perform its job of removing solder.
I was concentrating on my project at hand..I would just pull a little of the wick out as I'd use it, my son (my helper) would cut the used piece off and I'd go on. As I'm doing this, I'm thinking to myself, 'oh I can be a tiny bit generous because I have (supposed to have) 5 feet of this..
While on a few minutes when I went to pull a little more out of the spool... There was NONE Left!!
I looked at the empty spool, looked at my son, he looked at me, and we both looked at the spool again, then on the concrete floor where there is hardly anything except for the few end pieces that had been used/fanned & cut off. If it'd had been 'funny' that would have been the ultimate 'cartoon moment'. However being that it wasn't really funny because I could no longer work on my project. We picked up every piece of the wick that came off this spool, less than a handful total. (It's in a photo attached.) I live in a relatively small town which no local stores carry anything more than a pocket sized tube-container of very fine rosen core solder, no solder wick, no rosen flux. Also meaning I have to again get online to shop for (hopefully) a better quality item, then wait another 2-3 days to receive anything of use. This is all quite annoying, in the least.
Also, I have added photo(s) to show the poor, defective braid and also in the ziplock bag is the entire amount of braid, in frayed pieces; which was - the Less than 1 foot piece of wick that was on this spool. (They are getting this back in their returns.)
Thank you for reading and I really hope that this review will help someone in their choice(s).

Desoldering wick for your desoldering needs

Desoldering wick, what would I do without you? I'd use that stupid desoldering gun I have. I hate that thing. Pump, button, pop, and nothing. So annoying to hold the iron and gun at the same time, and a pain to reset again and again. This wick works wonders. Alliteration. I has it. I wish it was a bit cheaper, but that's only because I don't like spending money on account of being poor. I think this wick is well worth it though. Damn. Almost more alliteration. I don't think two successive words count. Not for me, at least. Three or more. That's how I judge the world.
I never believed in wicks for the longest time. I was a moron. This stuff makes it so easy to clean up yours or other peoples' messes. Depending upon how much work you do, you may want to opt for the larger pack. I don't find myself needing to desolder too much, so I got this one. I can see it lasting a while for me.
