Didn't help much with cholesterol, BUT had an unexpected benefit
Michael Parish✓ Verified PurchaseNovember 27, 2017
I've been taking 3, 000 mg a day for high LDL cholesterol and low HDL cholesterol. It did drop my LDL about 10 points. Frankly, not much. It raised good HDL cholesterol just 4 points. Needless to say this was disappointing. HOWEVER, an unexpected benefit turned up. I have night sweats and often wake with a soaked T-shirt which has to be changed. It's from the dreams I have. They aren't terrible, simply confused, and helpless. I have dreams like parking my car in a big lot and being unable to find it. Or, in a strange city and being lost while no one is willing to help me. And then there is the one where I get a new job and don't have a clue on what is going on. I spend the dream hoping my new boss doesn't discover I'm clueless. BUT, since taking the niacin those dream have disappeared. And the ones that replace those have me confident and assured no matter the circumstance. I find this interesting and will continue using niacin. I've never heard of this side effect before. The closest I've heard of was for depression.
Good product, just don't use too much.

I always got the "niacin flush" from taking half a tab, but it wasn't too uncomfortable. Just be very careful with your dose! I accidentally took too much when the tab didn't break on the line, didn't think it was a big deal, was about 3/4 or less of the pill. Oh my! Crazy burning flush, lightheadedness, hard to breathe, racing heartbeat, I seriously thought I was having a heart attack. Managed to purge, and felt better fairly quickly, but wow! Scary! It's nothing against this product in particular, I think any regular niacin product would have had the same effect, I just want to warn newbs to niacin supplements to start out with SMALL doses. Other than my mis-dose, I've had a good experience with this product.
Niacin helps increase the strength in my weakened post surgical legs!

This Niacin is amazing! I still am using the bottle that expired in March of 2015, supposedly, and it still works. I had forgotten what I was using it for, actually. Following double hip replacements, my lower legs were quite weak, so I was attempting to walk for one hour each day to strengthen them. I began my walk one time in the midst of the flush, and I was shocked by how much stronger my legs felt with all of those capillaries in my legs opening up! Wow. Now I take my dose of Niacin a short time before exercising in order to help my 68 year old muscles with the extra blood flow created by the niacin opening them all up. I had forgotten that the flushing version of Niacin decreases cholesterol, so even more added benefit. Many other people who wrote reviews were questioned about the shelf life of this stuff since there are 1000 pills in the bottle. I am living proof that even if you keep forgetting to take it like I did, so that two plus years after the 'best by' date you have lots of pills left, this stuff still works perfectly. BTW, the first time I took them, I thought I was having an allergic reaction. But I discovered that I really enjoy the sensations of the flush, and am thrilled each time thinking of all those tiny capillaries that were jammed with only one blood cell passing through at a time, are now flowing like little rivers of oxygen sources to my muscles! Yay for Niacin! I NEVER wanted to take statins.
I fell in to a burning ring of fire (just kidding)

I've been taking supplements for decades. Some are definitely bogus. Unfortunately, one finds this out by taking the supplements while, at the same time, doing relevant research. Consequently, I no longer take MANY of the supplements I've taken in the past. The ones I do take, and have been taking for years are, according to the literature, effective. This fact is corroborated by how they affect me personally. It's my bias that their benefits are unmistakable. THE one supplement that I would never do without is niacin. While you're on Amazon, cycle over to a book called, "Niacin: The Real Story," by Abram Hoffer, MD. Click on the "Look Inside" link and educate yourself. Do you take a statin? When you've finished reading Hoffer, cycle on over to a book called, "The Great Cholesterol Myth," by Jonny Boden, and Stephen Sinatra, MD. Statins DEFINITELY lower cholesterol. That's the good news. They also lower HDL. That's the bad news. The one that lowers LDL and actually raises HDL ... is niacin. Now, Big Pharma doesn't like this. After all, they've invested billions upon billions in statins. Big Pharma along with your family doctor are probably going to tell you how the flush is so unbearable that you'll self combust after the first tablet. Start off by quartering a pill, and take that one pill over a four-day period. Then repeat the process for the next four days. On day nine, try titrating up to one-half pill per day. Then alternate - i.e., one-half pill for one day, one-quarter pill for the next day. You get the point. Within three weeks you won't feel it. Who knows? You might even live to Dr. Hoffer's age: 91. Hoffer made a distinction between physiologic dementia, and the dementia caused by a niacin deficiency. Thousands were released from custodial care because of him. It's a vitamin for crying out loud, but that vitamin (B3) prevented the four "Ds." Diarrhea, Dermatitis, Dementia, and Death. These were the four symptoms of Pellagra - disease that is no longer with us. Foods became fortified with it. LEGIONS of people became healthier. Skip the slo-niacin. It can be, under certain circumstances, hepatotoxic. Finally, $24.00 for 500 days of protection. You'll drop that in Starbucks in five days. Come on! YOU'RE WELCOME!
Helped my depression

Works for depression. I bought Niacin after watching "Food Matters". My depression got 70% better after 2 weeks, I felt more relaxed since day one. I only take 1/4 of the tab because that's all the flushing I can handle and always take it after a meal. I hope this information helps.
