Granted that this is the first rock hammer I have used it fits the details of a good hammer of any sort. It is well-constructed, well-balanced and the proper head weight for the job.
The head weight is a vital thing when using a hammer. OIt makes the swing part of the job so much easier on the muscles, it gives the right amount of impact on the target, in the case, rocks. It makes the hammer impact easier to control. Ask anyone like me that has done roofing or any long-term work with a hammer.

Good Quality Rock Hammer
Pullupy09•June 23, 2017
Good quality, durable, and does the job! Bought this to go geode hunting and it worked as intended! Has good amount of weight to help with chipping away are lime stones and hardened dirt. Handle is rubber and easy to grip. Sharp pointed edge which was great for cracking some geodes. Overall, very happy with my purchase! I definitely recommend this product for rock hounding!
Fun for the right kid.

I got this for my 9 year old grand son, along with a rock identification book and satchel to keep his rocks and hammer in. He loves to carry his "kit" and go "mining" where ever he can find rocks. I added some safety glasses, which I recommend doing, since fragments fly now and then.
Science for Grandkids
Amazon Customer•May 7, 2017
My Grandkids needed some expanding of their outlooks. This product will help to introduce them to gems and lapidary work as well as to gold and silver smithing for jewelry as well as learning some Geology. All around a good experience for kids.
Works great for metal detecting and other purposes
Nebu•December 6, 2016
I metal detect and I was running into problems where I wanted to metal detect gravel parkinglots. But my Shovel couldn't break through the rocks or reach the coins. I purchased this for that purpose.
After trying it, this thing is pretty awesome. From then on, I always have it in the trunk of the car. Who knows what you might need it for.
=Pretty heavy but that's what you need
=Great for smashing through rocks
=Kids loving using it.
Note: this item also keeps coming up in searches for emergency/survival tools.
Only a minor con which isn't really a con but sometimes I smash the #*#*#* out of the coins trying to dig them out. haha.
