Great supplement to learning! Offers toddlers the chance to explore independently.

I ordered this one used to replace the new one my toddler lost. I had NO PROBLEMS hooking it up to my LeapFrog Connect! It recognizes there are two pens, but it doesn't matter. Loading the content was easy, and being used, the previous owners were kind enough to delete old content.

I recommend this (new or used) to parents who want a learning supplement for their young child. It allows the child to discover and learn independently while also offering teaching moments with the parent. My favorite feature is the learning to write and draw reader. It helps my daughter trace the lines needed for alphabet writing.

Do not mistake what I am saying: There are great opportunities for parents to help their child learn along the way, and nothing replaces good old fashioned parent teaching moments. We take the pen and books on road trips or to places where there may be a waiting time. Keeps the kiddo occupied.
The Best Gift we Ever Got for Our Child!

We bought this for our daughter when we was four, and she was instantly in love with it. She played with it every day. Now at six, she's an independent reader, and still loves the Tag Reader! It works just as well now as when she got it, and we love the variety of books and science packs. This is an amazing tool for emerging readers. I've also used it when teaching struggling readers in kindergarten and first grade in my classrooms--works like a charm! This makes reading fun, interactive and the child can repeat things as many times as is comfortable for her. I highly recommend this item!
LeapFrog Tag

My sister got my daughter leapfrog tag junior books for Christmas and I didn't have a reader pen and really didn't want to buy the junior pen because it's for 1-3yrs. same with the books and I figured she'd grow out of that to fast. Well after research I found out that the regular Tag pen works with junior books so I bought this and hooked it up and was able to download all 5 books my sister bought and the book that comes with the pen onto the pen and she loves it. If she clicks on anything other than the word it well talk or make sounds as well example... you click on the bird and it sings or on Tags mom and she askes Tag if he's almost finished. Glad I bought tthis.
A great educational toy!

I got this for our 4 year old who we're trying to teach how to read. He absolutely loves it! We originally had the LeapFrog LeapReader Junior Book Pal - Scout, and it broke after about a year of use.

All the tag books have very fun and engaging games that gets them interested and excited. Each page you can have the tag read the whole book to you or you can read along word by word, which is the mode we usually use it in. The games it has help learn matching, rhymes, visual recognition. We've been using this for about 6 months now, and he can read many
I truly believe this has been a very important part in my son learning to read, and it's also one of his favorite toys (because of the great books and activities they have).

I don't really care for the prizes and online/pc interaction it requires. We usually/currently skip over that part most of the time. However just to note, their software and hardware works well in a Windows VM in VMWare (we use Linux primarily).
Great little device for the budding readers

We got this device to allow our boys to read books to themselves while driving in the car or flying and we aren't able to read to them for whatever the reason. The device is great at what it was designed for. A tap on the page provides a myriad of responses, from reading the page, to helping a child with a word pronunciation, to playing an in-game book.

Plugging the pen into your computer provides the parental setup/interface needed to make the device work. Our kids like to use it sometimes at home. We loaded it up with all the books we own and they enjoy sitting down on the couch at times and tapping through a book or pressing the auto play button to simply sit and listen to a loaded story.

If you have Pre-K, K, or 1st Graders that are learning to read, then buy this device for travel or those times when you're busy in the home making dinner or doing laundry or the like and they're playing by themself.
