I use these bottles to hold drinking water, and they work extremely well. The square shape means that they store more compactly and neatly than round bottles, and they are solidly built.

Note that I always keep them vertical; I don't know if the caps will reliably seal tightly when the bottles are horizontal.

Basic thicker plastic gallon jug. It is what it is, use it to hold water as I drink a lot, so keep 4 of them in the fridge so I always have cold H20. Way better than buying bottled water when on sale and reusing those bottles.

BPA-free Bottles for Water Storage
Cool BreezeAugust 2, 2013
I purchased these bottles (case of 4) for storing drinking water. They are very sturdy, nice-looking, and flat-sided so they line up neatly. According to the seller, they are BPA-free (they're manufactured in the U.S., but Wheaton is a re-seller). Their recycle code is 2. Compared to "free" gallon bottles from the supermarket, these are a little pricey, but I was unable to find cheaper examples online that met my requirements (BPA-free, square, screw cap, easy-carry handle), and the bottles in which drinking water is sold are generally not intended for re-filling or long-term storage.
