The cap (toboggan to me) is the best I expect to find. It's woolen, it's thicker than some others, and it was made in the USA. If you have a very large head (say size 7 3/4 or 7 7/8), it will be snug, but will stretch to fit over time. Those with small or average sized heads needn't be concerned. If you remember how thick this kind of headgear was made several decades ago, be glad you got to wear what was made back then. I don't know where a thicker one can be had now.

I purchased this about 5 months ago and I've used it once very three days for two months, with dwindling usage afterward (to once a week).

I live in Los Angeles so it doesn't get any snow but it does get cold in the winter, sometimes to low 30's in the colder months. I also bike a lot, so I've had chances to test this watch cap's performance while outside for two or three hour stretches at a time with varying levels of activity and wind intensity. It's worked well for my climate and I would trust this in NYC during the winter chills that tend to happen after New Year's.

The wool is of pretty good quality. It doesn't fuzz easily, which comforts me because whenever I see sweaters fuzzing up, I know that it means the sweater is losing fiber and therefore losing warmth holding capacity. In fact, the worsted wool is not a fuzzy wool at all. However, just because it is not a fuzzy wool doesn't mean that there is no loft. On the contrary, there is a lot of the wool squishiness/loft which helps to hold in heat as well as insulate from the wind. At first, because of this extreme loft, I thought that this hat squeezed my head a little too much and when I folded it up, the folds looked too bulky. After a couple weeks of consistent usage, it broke in to fit my head perfectly with the right amount of grab. It didn't continue to stretch after that - which would have made it useless - but held its form and I am so happy with it now because it is now MY hat, a hat that I hope will be with me for years and years to come.

I'm happy with the quality of these wool watch caps from Wigwam. I would definitely buy a couple more so that I'll never have to hunt around for them for the rest of my life or in case I lose this one. They're good quality, and I like these a bit more because I don't get that stupid "rectangle-triangle head" action that the navy issue watch caps have. If anything changes, of course I will update this review.

This is not cheap yarn that feels scratchy even on callused fingers like one of those $5 caps. It's not cashmere like the $80 caps either. But it's a true wortsed wool (the yarn is tightly wound with long fibers making for a smooth durable yarn).

The size is ample enough that you can have a large cuff and still pull the cap down over your ears and low on your forehead. Got a big head? Use a smaller cuff and you'll still well.

This is a machine-knit product made with heavy yarn, resulting in a thick fabric. Felt like a blessing today walking a mile and a half inn 14F degree weather.

If the cap gets stretched out or out of shape, hand wash and block it. But it's a watch cap, what's out-of shape? ;)

after looking for a good all round cap for the cold weather, I went back to wool. They are comfortable, not itchy. In the real cold weather, it takes a good 5 minutes or so for the warmth from your head to transfer enought to the hat to keep your head warm. The ears, in my opinion, really need the cuff in the hat. That said, they hat is big enough for the average head. Also, when they get wet, they dry quickly and sweat somehow does not cause the hat to smell. It is 100% wool, so when you want to wash it, I would recommend hand washing in woolite or something mild and air dry

Great value for a all wool hat. Its warm and comfortable.
