Soul Calibur 5 review

If you enjoyed the past Soul Calibur games then you will enjoy this one as well. On the plus side- big roster of characters, stunning graphics, and a deeper create a fighter mode. Downside? Really not much of endings for the characters.
Soul Calibur Fans - This Isn't The Game You're Hoping It Is

I bought this hoping against hope that it would recapture the fun I had in SC II, SC III, and, to a much slimmer extent, SC IV. Unfortunately, what I got was the bleeding, butchered corpse of the franchise. While there is still an acceptable 1v1 mode, the 1-player options are abysmal and obviously strung together on an absolute shoestring budget. And with the absence of so many of the characters that made Soul Calibur truly great, this is less of a reboot and more like an... old boot. The kind you'd wear on your foot.

I hadn't really played that much soul calibur games so I bought this to check out. It was fun, but not as much as tekken. The one character that fascinated me from this game, was voldo, he has such weird fighting style.
Not much value for solo play

Like other people say, the single player options are lacking - they didn't have enough time to make the story mode any good. This game is better suited to multiplayer and online matches.

Visually, this game is flashier with brighter weapon trails and bursting auras. I somehow find this game visually less charming than its predecessor. I don't know if it's the lighting or the animations or the overall tone or what.
At least they picked a guest character that makes more sense than last time.
Gameplay-wise, commands are simpler, and they've limited Guard Impact abuse. The new use of a power gauge makes me think of Street Fighter or something.

Lastly, if you're into character creation like me, you might find the selection of costume pieces interesting at first, but ultimately a little bland. I frequently encounter problems of incompatibility with combinations of items. Free placement and resizing of accessories is nice, but often not versatile enough. It can be a struggle to place accessories where you want them. Same for tattoos and patterns. Also, choosing a fighting style can be annoying because of all the personality in each character's body language. Ex.: Want to make a shield and sword style custom? Your choice is either timid Pyrrha, super cocky Patroklos, or homicidal, blood-thirsty ______ Omega's fighting style.
