Doesn't stop dog from pulling (no harness does, tho)
LISA HENRY✓ Verified PurchaseJanuary 23, 2018
Well, it does NOT stop your dog from pulling but no harness does as a harness actually encourages pulling. (There may be one out there, but I haven't found it yet and have a pile of harnesses in a drawer that don't stop pulling or I can't figure out how to adjust properly.)

Again, it doesn't stop pulling and in fact, the closure seems quite dangerous to me as instead of being a fixed area around the neck, it tightens as the dog pulls which isn't good for a dog that pulls.

Mine doesn't look quite like the picture, the neck part is like a collar and goes around the neck which is what I DIDN'T want--I wanted one that hits the dog higher in the back and lower in the chest and not around the throat, like a collar. I can't figure out how to adjust the collar part to be bigger and further back as in the picture. Dog chokes when pulling with this harness.

Also, it is quite flimsy and seems like it will tear in time. There are some fleece coverings that go under the front arms but they seem awkward, not durable and hang a bit. Maybe an adustment will fix this, but I can't figure out how to adjust it so it will go in the drawer with all of the others I never used..

I ordered a medium for my 40 lb dog which seems like the right size, but again, the only adjustments that can be made are on the collar part which although fits over my dog's head, it sits like a collar and not a wider fit around shoulder. Can't figure out how to make it bigger.
Good fit for my Eskimo Spitz

I tried the small size and it wasn't large enough for my female miniature Spitz. The company said to return the harness and I tried the medium which is a good fit now.

My dog responds really well to this harness and tugs but nowhere near as hard as before. Since the collar and chest piece work together she doesn't choke and cough like she did when on a standard neck collar. After about a week she "got" the harness and now knows how to lift each front leg one-at-a-time to get into it.

Since the leash attaches to the harness at the top of the small of the back it's far less likely to wrap around her neck and she rarely gets tangled in our 12' long lead now.

Most highly recommended.
The new version of this harness does not work for me: digs in and is uncomfortable for my dog.

I was very disappointed, mainly because the product has changed just enough to be no longer an acceptable answer for my dog. The name changed from Sporn to YUP! on the product (see picture of the metal "webbing junction"), though Sporn is still the manufacturer. The old Sporn Non-Pulling Mesh Harness, Medium, had nice thick "webbing adjusters" (the part that goes over the shoulder) that held my dog firmly and didn't cut into my small labrador's skin/coat (almost 60 lbs at 5 years). The "elasticized mesh pad" in the front of the harness was big enough to sufficiently hold my dog's chest. Both of these pieces have changed so much that they no longer are a gentle means of walking my dog. The "webbing adjuster" is now a thin, rounded strap that cuts into my dog as she pulls. The "elasticized mesh pad" (that is "the braking stimulus") is narrower so that it doesn't fit nicely on her chest. I measured the parts with my old harness and found the length measurements were the same... it is just the widths/construction and material used that have changed. I like the color very much (brighter blue) but not the material or construction. You need a wide enough strap that it holds your dog without digging into the coat. Sorry this great product no longer meets my needs, since it was really a nice harness. (See my photos, with old vs. new materials.) (PS. I ordered a large to see if that worked better because it had the wider mesh, but the length of the "restraint cords" were so long that I could not have a close connection with my dog when I need a short leash. There would always be too long a distance between the leash and my dog.)
initially worked great. eventual failure with slide lock. Sporn replacing it. ...

Initially worked great. (first review -- works great --I harve used it now for about 4 months.)

9 months after purchase, the sliding lock (clasp) used to tighten, broke, making the rest of the harness unusable (unless one makes slip knot from cord -- suggested by another customer.). The rest of it held up well. This was my 2nd SPORN harness. The first lasted a long time but eventually the slide lock failed (small piece broke so cannot tighten.)

11/3/16 i contacted sporn describing the problem and sent photos. They said that they have become aware of the problem and are in the process of changing the manufacturer. They will send me a replacement harness. Now that is super customer service and standing behind one's product.
Just get it--it works!

I didn't think this would work, but it was recommended by a trainer at PetSmart. I had tried other harnesses that had not worked. As soon as I put this on, my little corgi stopped pulling. He is 18 months and was not trained at all by his previous owner. I was working on having him 'check in' with me on walks, but he still continued to pull when I attached the leash to his collar. The first time I put this on, he stopped pulling. He now walks mostly with a loose leash. I continue to work on his watching me and checking in, especially if he spots a distraction, but his pulling has decreased tremendously. It's also very easy to put on, and appears comfortable for him.
