pretty neat, kids were amazed at the findings

Pretty cool - we got some really interesting minerals. The instructions state to use the included plastic bag are that's pretty ridiculous thus my reasoning behind a 1 star deduction. If you're really worried about fragments then I'd recommend using a nylon bag that wont easily tear apart like the included plastic bag. For those of you having difficulty breaking them the key is to place the geode onto a very solid surface. Don't use the floor or any type of wood surface. We used a couple spare patio blocks and they cracked like eggs with just one or two medium hits with a hammer. You won't get this super clean cut like the box art shows. If you're looking for that I'd recommend to just cut them open carefully with a die grinder / cut off wheel or band saw if you happen to have access to one. They are brittle - most of ours split into 1/3 and 2/3 sized splits, some got pulverized, and a few split fairly evenly 1/2 and 1/2. Overall pretty neat!

My 7 year old absolutely loved cracking these open. With the help of her daddy she used safety glasses, a flathead screw driver and hammer and it worked great. They were all beautiful on the inside. All of them were about the size of a golf ball. I will be buying more in the near future as party favors for her birthday.

I bought this as a gift for my son and he absolutely loved it the geodes were good sized only a few were small. They had beautiful crystals inside. I would definitely recommend if your buying this for a child or even yourself. Was shipped and delivered on time as well.

so, I got this for my 7 year old nephew and 5 year old niece. They loved smashing them and seeing the sparkly stuff inside. Fun activity and can be educational without being annoying about it.

My kids enjoyed cracking four of the geodes yesterday. We'll save the rest to do on other days. Lots of fun. Better to do outside or in garage. The breaking bags rip right away but do help reduce airborne rock debris. The kids enjoyed using the identification guide to figure out what crystals their geodes held. Very Neat!
