I'm an artist. I bought these because I was interested in the non-toxic opaque quality I associate with liquid tempera paints. These paints give nice transparent effects but it takes awhile for the cakes to activate to the point of achieving deep saturated color. Overall, I liked using them. I found it surprising that I was able to achieve transparent effects usually associated with watercolors. Once activated, I was able to get those deep opaques usually associated with liquid tempera. I like these paints and consider them a good investment. I gave them 4 stars because of the slow activation.

I bought this item because I wanted to experiment with tempera paints and it was inexpensive. I also liked the idea of the solid cakes of paint and haven't been disappointed. They don't make a mess and paint isn't wasted.
I've been pleasantly surprised with the quality of these paints. They are very easy to use and I have been able to blend them to make all kinds of colors with fantastic color payoff. Also, I'll be able to reuse the plastic container it comes in.
