My Birds Left After Using This!
Birding Girl•January 25, 2018
I purchased this because of nuisance squirrels and all of our songbirds stopped coming to our feeder. We followed the directions precisely. This was a total waste of expensive birds seed, not to mention the unpleasant task of mixing and filling the feeder with dangerously hot spice sauce. The experiment was a total disaster.
Works perfectly

Perfect to use for those birdfeeders that are supposed to be squirrel proof but the squirrels don't know they are and get in anyway. The squirrels will leave the seed alone if you mix a little of this into it. The birds don't notice the taste. I recommend buying squirrel food for both birds and squirrels for use on the ground or a small table. The squirrels then have their own to eat and share with the birds. Birds like the sunflower seeds that often come with the squirrel food.
Attracts more squirrels and chipmunks then it does birds!

Let the feast begin! We got this product to try to circumvent the squirrels from enjoying the bird's food. Quite the opposite is happening. The squirrels are inviting their friends the chipmunks to join in the feast. This hasn't slowed them down one bit. We applied the product liberally as instructed to get the birds to get used to it but it seems the squirrels and chipmunks are also hot chili lovers. Who knew! Won't be purchasing this again as it certainly isn't doing anything to stop the squirrels.
Quite pleased so far!

Quite pleased so far! I tried other techniques to stop the dirty rascals from terrorizing my bird feeder and climbing my screen door, even bought a live trap and moved fifteen of them to the other side of the state. Still, more would show up ... I'm watching a squirrel outside my patio door right now. Twice he's climbed up to the feeder hoping to empty it, just like so many times before, but each time he puts his nose and mouth to the seed he backs away. The birds are happily feeding at it though, the hot sauce not bothering them at all. The warnings are correct, though, the stuff stings if you get it on your face. Because all my fingers are thumbs, I managed to do just that, and it burns!
Edit/Addendum:
I've been using this product for about a month now and I have noticed that it loses its potency after several days. My solution was to mix about a tablespoon of the sauce to two ounces of water in a spray bottle to "freshen up" and re-coat the seed that's already in the bird feeder from time to time. Be upwind if you try this, though, even a gentle breeze will swirl around the spray mist. And if it gets on your face, it will sting.

Changed my mind. It works.

2016 Does not work. Squirrels don't even notice it's there (when I put it on the seeds, probably because they carefully remove the spicy husk first).
2018 ADDENDUM, I find if I mix it with peanutbutter and smear it, not on the birdfood, but on the birdfeeder pole, they learn their lesson. They no longer try to climb the pole, and even the cheeky black squirrel who tries to launch himself on top of the squirrel baffle no longer visits at all. They will however forage for dropped seeds on the ground below the feeders, but they don't even glance longingly at the pole which holds the feeders. I consider that a success.
However I wish it came in a drip proof bottle for better control. This bottle results in drips down the sides of the bottle, and trust me, you do not want to get this stuff on your hands, or inhale the fumes.
