A Fantastic Caxixi Shaker With A Unique Jingling Sound + It Is Handmade! There Are A Few Blemishes/Marks, But Nothing Severe!
JestifexJuly 14, 2016
1. How Does It Look?

The Single Caxixi shaker looks pretty clean, with a bit of imperfections in the craftsmanship here and there. I know that Africa Heartwood Project Instruments are handmade so I am pretty understanding of the small blemishes here and there. The blemishes are small marks/dirt on the bottom of the gourd pieces and the small strips of the woven material that peel off here and there. "0.75 STARS!"

2. Does It Sound Good?

These particular Caxixi shakers have a louder, brighter sound with a lot of presence to its character. It also has a jingling sound that is made from seeds, pebbles, and metal bottle caps that are on the inside. I have the double Caxixi shaker and I can tell that this single Caxixi is not as full in its sound, which should be expected, but still great for a single shaker. The sound honestly, reminds me of the rings on a tambourine, except more clearer than the cheap tambourine I have. I was expecting it to have a more, quieter sound with just seeds on the inside like the colored caxixi from this company, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it had a different, yet wonderfully unique sound. "1.00 STARS!"

3. How Easy Is It To Use?

It's super simple to get into a groove. It won't take long before you get the hang of it. Then you can accompany this caxixi with another shaker or instrument with your other hand when you become more familiar with the instrument. "1.00 STARS!"

4. How Does It Feel?

The construction of the single Caxixi feels pretty solid and I'm quite impressed. Even with its minor blemishes, it is more than sturdy enough to hold together and it won't be falling apart on you anytime soon. Just don't drop it or step on it and it'll be okay. "1.00 STARS!"

5. Is It Worth The Price?

I think this particular Caxixi is not as a good deal as the double Caxixi because this one is only $2.50 cheaper than the double shaker. I think the price is still pretty fair for the quality it offers though. "0.75 STARS!"

6. Should You Buy This?

I think that you should give this shaker a try, especially if you want a unique piece that is handmade and that also produces a unique sound compared to other traditional shakers on the market.

7. What's My Rating?

I rate this product a 4.50 out of 5.00 stars and have to round up to 5.00 stars for Amazon's review system.

Darling addition to our instrument collection.

This is bigger than I expected and seems to be made out of a gourd with wicker wrapped around it. It sounds like the noisemakers inside are a little bigger so it isn't really the rain type sound but more of a heavy shaker sound. It has held up well to my little guys playing with it as they learn a percussion instrument. This also goes to a good cause because some of the profits help african villages.I am always looking for new musical instruments for my daycare kiddos so when I was offered a discount in exchange for my review of this cute instrument I jumped at the chance.
Pretty jingle bell sound

I have several instruments from the Africa Heartwood Project now, and they are all really cool. This one makes a jingling sound because of the bottlecaps inside. It is smaller than I expected, and it is completely woven without a gourd on the end as the photo shows. I know that it is handmade and, therefore, won't be perfect. Mine leans to one side quite a bit.

It's a nice sound that is different from the seed shakers. It's louder too even though it's smaller than the maraca I have. It appears to be durable enough which is good since I plan to let pre-K kids use the instruments when learning about World music and specifically Africa.

I received a discount on the purchase of this product in exchange for an unbiased review. I would recommend this product and will update my review if anything comes up to change my opinion.
