Exactly what I needed to use my MIDI drum kit ...

Exactly what I needed to use my MIDI drum kit with Rock Band. Doesn't work with Guitar Hero though. :(
This is a great device.

I don't remember how I first discovered this device - because I certainly wouldn't have thought to search for "midi drums to wii", in my whole life.
It works fabulously, even on older drum brains. I have an outdated, Roland TD-7 (obsolete), and it worjks just fine. Also, I do not yet have Rock Band 3, and it still works with the Rock Band discs that I do have (one of them being the Metal track pack) . Of course, until I actually purchase RB3, I have the option of hitting the cymbals or the toms for certain colored notes, because it does not have the cymbal symbol to designate which is the correct pad to hit. However, I am such a newbie drummer, for the time being if I just hit something proper it will be amazing :-) The device itself is great... Me on the other hand, we'll have to wait and see!

Wish I had bought this a few years ago.

So far I've only used this with the Casio LK-100 and Rock Band 3 in Pro Mode on a Nintendo Wii (2006 model). I don't know if it was luck or fortune but the signal timing was spot on out of the box so I didn't need to try any of the adjustments; just jumped right into Sister Christian.
With the Casio (and I'm sure just about every other MIDI device) I had the choice to mute the keyboard so that only the keyboard in the game was audible, turn down the game keyboard so that I couldn't hear all the missed notes :( or even change the voice of the Casio and accompany myself in the game with an organ, steel drum or some other weird combo.
One Caveat: I wasn't able to get the MIDI Pro Adapter recognized through the dongle for either the Mustang Pro Guitar or the Pro "Key-Tar" so if you want to use this as part of a full band setup you might need to buy a 4 port USB2 hub for your Wii. There's an official "Rock Band" version available but a good generic one might also work.
Now if I could just find a good, cheap drum kit with MIDI out in the controller...

A worthy replacement for that dispicable dongle

A week before my purchase, the Rock Band keyboard dongle, which is required to use the accessory on the Wii(U), failed to work anymore, rendering my official Rock Band MadCatz keyboard completely useless...unless I integrate its built-in MIDI mode.
I previously purchased a MIDI Pro-Adapter for the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 3, and the keyboard, supposedly used for the Wii, worked flawlessly with the game on another platform. I attempted this solution again with the platform with which it's supposed to work, and it worked successfully. Like with the Xbox 360 version, this means that the buttons on the keyboard are not used for navigation, rather for toggling MIDI-functions. The interface on the adapter, on the other hand, which is comfortable to hold in the hand, allows easy navigation through the in-game menus as well as quick access to Overdrive on the table or on your hip.
Don't ask another eBay customer again for his instrument dongle; just pick this up and utilize your MIDI instrument (such as the MadCatz keyboard controller) to its potential. Oh, and perhaps purchase a USB extension cable, if you plan to play farther than three meters from the TV.

One of the best things I've bought all year!

What a great product!
Having the ability to plug any MIDI instrument into my Wii and use it to play Rock Band is one of the few times where technology has actually amazed me and made my life better. Instead of being trapped into buying a pathetic little piece of garbage drum set made for Rock Band (and being forced to pay an extortionist price for it since it's been discontinued), I was able to buy a pro kit (!!!) at a lower price than the cheaply made plastic Rock Band kit, and use it to play the game.
The best part is that if I were ever to switch to PS3 or XBox, I could just get another little adapter gizmo and continue to use my kit. Or, if I ever get sick of the game, I can sell the kit to a drummer.... can't say that for the Rock Band drum kit!
But in case you're wondering, it's not just limited to drums. This can be switched to work with a keyboard or even a MIDI guitar!
I can't say enough about how wonderful it is when people make things that actually improve my life, rather than treating me like a "consumer" whose only duty in life is just to keep buying more and more worthless, useless junk.
