SMELLS HORRIBLE FIRST 24 HOURS, 98% CLEAR IN ONE WEEK. (update of 5/25/17)
Have unit hooked up to late 2105 retina g5 imac, which i've had problem with since
brand new, potentially due to power spikes and quick, to long, outages... public
utilities transformersblow up in this area fairly often also. Hooked up, and trying to
see how to get Imac Os to manage shut down when it senses unit is switched to
battery backup. Haven't found that yet on my Os Sierra 10.12.5 yet. Apple tech
today told me Mac Os will not manage this, so waiting on tech feedback from cyber
power. Still hopeful, unit seems operative, and simply means i'd have to manually
close system down. As mentioned obnoxious smell that was powerful first day (plastic
smell) is 8% gone now after a week or so.
This is a very PREMATURE review, as i just got it yesterday. That bizarre rubber-plastic
smell that many cheap toilet plungers have if you buy 'em at 99 cent store have, is the
horrid odor that comes from this thing when you open the box. Obnoxious or Noxious.
MANY REVIEWS referred to this. I am chemically sensitive so I am happy that 24 hours
later i am now not barricaded in my bedroom with a 12 pound carbon air purifier at full blast
anymore, but can walk through the house again. (filled my entire house with obnoxious or noxious
odor... scary). STILL GIVING 4 Stars at this moment (WILL UPDATE AS TIME GOES BY), as
the smell is mostly gone (some reviewers said the smell NEVER went away) and i did the normal
requisite 8 hour charging of the unit before hooking it up or anything. body of unit did not get warm
from the charging. I compared this unit heavily against much more expensive APC SMT1500 and SMC1500,
which are MUCH bigger also (maybe three times the body size and twice as heavy, they are more like a automobile
battery.... but i think the APC SMT1500 might be the "gold standard" in these units... although even it had
users complaining on the cheap plastic/rubber smell also, i believe, or the SMC1500...
Bottomline, if this works as it is supposed to, it has the advantage of taking up a lot less space than
the competing units, is much cheaper, and is a sleek small, but hefty (not light!) unit. I will update as time
goes on. hoping for the best.

I have had this for over six years and it has worked flawlessly. Recently, it would shut down when my laser jet cycled for a print job. I suspected the unit was "bad" and that I'd have to replace it. I called CyberPower. Didn't have to wait long for technical support to pick up. He explained to me why the printer would cause the unit to just shut off. He told me all I needed was a new battery pack and gave me the part number--no B.S., no sales pitch for a newer model, he just wanted to meet my needs and make me happy...which he did.
I don't need to, but if I did, I would buy this unit or another CyberPower unit again. Great, reliable product, awesome customer service.

Glad I purchased this

Made the switch from APC to CyberPower because of cost. Needed a UPS with a pure sign wave output and APC was just too expensive. Glad I purchased this. It came well packaged, box within a box. Yes, the new plastic smelled a little, but it was gone in 10 minutes. I would say the case is pretty robust. Though the unit looked charged, I followed the instructions and let it charge for 8 hours before using it. I plugged in a monitor and desktop PC and then yanked the UPS plug out of the wall. The CyberPower didn't miss a beat. Everything kept running fine. The only noise I heard was a small relay click when I plugged the UPS back into the wall outlet. I have had it running for a week now and I can't hear any fan noise. If it stays true, I will purchase a couple more for my other systems (including my NAS) located throughout the house.
Should be a little more efficient

Pros:
"¢ Best price for sine wave UPS
"¢ Energy efficient
Cons:
"¢ Not as efficient as values submitted to EnergyStar
"¢ No response from support after reporting my efficiency findings
Following is what I reported to CyberPower on 10/1/2016 ----------------------
I recently purchased a CP850PFCLCD Sinewave UPS from Amazon.
It seems to be a very nice unit. Before putting it into production I conducted
some testing, observing the waveform with an oscilloscope and also
measuring the efficiency.
With a 127W resistive load connected, the UPS draws 137W, giving a 92.7% efficiency.
However the Energy Star specifications for this model [...]
reports 96.7% efficiency at 25% Load. Therefore I would expect the UPS to only be drawing only 131W.
Note, the UPS had been connected to power for over 8 hours prior to performing this test.
Without any connected load, the UPS was only drawing 4.1W when the display was on.
I wanted to give you chance to respond, before I post my findings in an Amazon review.
Thanks for you help,
Brian Swift
PS. Unrelated to the efficiency issues, an initial cut of a video showing the waveforms
on an oscilloscope is at [...]

Reliable - they do a great job on poor quality rural power
R. Millar✓ Verified Purchase•June 21, 2016
We live in a rural area where the power is always a bit rough. Voltage drops and surges are common, as are variations in frequency and short outages (30 seconds or so every few days). I blame much of this on farm equipment starting up / stopping - the power company has made it clear that we are not on any priority list for having the local circuits improved, either.
We have three CyberPower UPS's in our home protecting various electronics and they have been great. WiFi routers always seemed to be the most fragile thing in the house and we have gone from needing to replace them every few months to not having to replace one for the last couple of years. Our occasional unexpected reboots on the 2 desktop PCs have also stopped. I often hear the UPS's switch off or on when I am around the house and they are kicking in to compensate for one issue or another.
Overall really happy - and don't think about them. I only thought to write this review as I was looking to buy another.
