This is a great steel

I have just purchased this steel to replace the exact one that I purchased in 2012. I have used it almost daily for nine years and it keeps my knives extremely sharp. I regularly clean it using hot water, dish soap, and a scrub brush to clean the steel fines out of the abrasive coating. It's finally starting to show wear after all these years. One of the best cheap kitchen tools I ever purchased. The only negative is that the handle loosened after a couple of years. I put a bit of Gorilla Glue in the handle and slid it back on, and it's never given me any trouble.

The surface is heavily coated with 800 grit abrasive, which I presume is diamond. 800 grit seems to be the sweet spot between fast cutting and fine honing. 3-4 swipes on each side of your knife and you are ready to go.
