Wow, this wok is the best!!!

My wok was a gift from a friend. When it arrived I was amazed how big it is. And I love how heavy and thick both the wok and the glass are. The lid alone weighs 3.4 pounds. At first thought it was way too big for my tiny apartment kitchen. I don't have much counter space so I keep in on my stovetop because I'm not using the burners now and doing everything in my wok. I absolutly love it!

I've had other non-electric woks in the past but always ended up just getting rid of them.
This wok is a whole different story. It's perfect for stir frying. The non stick is remarkable. Cleans very easily. The bowl is easily removed from the base for cleaning. But now i'm just using paper towels and water with a tiny bit of dish soap to wipe it out and it's so easy. I love the way it cooks chicken. Cooks fresh and frozen vegetables. I love the high sides which are great for stir-frying. It makes perfect scrambled eggs. Great for toasting nuts and making croutons.

You don't need to add oil although I do use avocado oil accassionally. Avocado oil has a mild taste and has a burning point up to 500 degrees. Other oils, olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc. all burn and smoke at a much lower temp.

I plan to make soup, stews, casseroles and hamburgers in my wok. I will try french toast and popcorn next. The possibilities are endless.

Other great features are the plug that goes into the wall and into the wok. The part that goes into the wok has a lever making it come out easier. The other end that plugs into the wall has a hole in the plug that makes it super easy, and safe to unplug. I love everything about this wok. A lot of thought was given by the manufacturers into every detail. I think it is well worth the cost and I plan to order 2 more of these for my kids Christmas gifts.
Excellent and Versatile Product

We now have two Breville Woks so we could keep one in our RV. We have found these Woks to be excellent at preparing Chinese dishes, but also perfect for preparing bacon and eggs, sauces, sautés, rice, and most any other dish that can be made in a pan. For further affirmation, one of my in-laws is native to northern China and quite familiar with wok cooking, but had never used an electric wok before. She graciously prepared an authentic Chinese multiple course meal using our Breville, and said she was quite impressed with its performance! Our first Breville is over a year old, has held up just fine under steady use, and no problems with the coating whether handwashed or in the dishwasher. We only use silicon utensils with it to prevent scratching. I can highly recommend this product for cooking nearly anything. It is a real workhorse in our kitchen.
Put simply, this wok has changed my life!

If I were able to give the Breville Hot Wok a rating of 10, I would!

Put simply, this wok has changed my life! I know...that sounds goofy, but it really has. I am a single 40-something who used to barely cook. I would burn water...if you know what I mean. I hate clean-up, hate following recipes for 2-4+ and it being only for me, I hate waiting for things to cook in the pot and the pans and all the dishes.... All those dishes...

Bluntly...I used to HATE cooking and being in the kitchen; well, that was up until my Breville Hot Wok arrived at my doorstep!

No under-stating here, it is a large beast. It takes up real-estate!!
It is like the 1970's Cadillac decked out for the low-rider with fur and dice strapped around the mirror complete with shiny rims.

It is HUGE!!! But I LOVE IT!!!! It has its own plot of land in my kitchen complete with fenced in yard and car port. It never sees the inside of a cupboard. I use it every single day! Yes, you read that correctly...I use it...I cook now...every day!!!

This Wok has converted me from a fast food, microwave heating, just-add-water sort of gal into a veggie slicing, meat cutting, stir-frying woman!!!

I can't seem to find anything I cannot make in the wok that used to require the stove or microwave. Better yet, I have increased my veggie intake 1,000 fold. It is the only cookware that I have used in months.

And the cleanup! OH MY how wonderful!!! wet a paper towel... wipe. DONE!!!!! That leaves washing the utensil I used to move the food around. Wha-La!!!! AWESOME!!!!!

Other things for consideration:
*It has a removable base. While unplugged and cold, flip it over, turn the lock. Remove the base.
*You can clean the wok with a wet towel... it has an awesome non-stick surface so food does not stick...thus the wipe with a towel.
*Please only use non-metal utensil in this masterpiece. What a shame it would be to ruin it by using a knife or metal spatula and digging up the surface.
*It cost more than others out there...WELL WORTH IT!!
*Heats up FAST!
*Heats evenly, no "hot-spots" on the surface.
*It is large, but cooks for one as easily as it will for 4.
*Cooks food fast...I think that is a WOK characteristic. Meat sears and cooks in about 2-3 minutes. Veggies take about the same time. I can have a complete meal in about 5 minutes!!! (I even sliced up a potato and made "fried" potatoes in it with about a tablespoon or less of oil. Cooked them perfectly and in less than 5 minutes.)
*comes with a booklet with some recipes
*Cord is that Breville trade mark design. Has that "O" to pull with your finger so you never get near the outlet.
*It is a WOK...and that means... big. I have not seen any woks that were "small". The potential trouble is where to store it when not in use. I leave mine on the stove. I have a nonflammable cover that sits on my gas stove metal grill thingy (the gill that holds the pans/pots above the flame--that thing). So my wok is out 24/7 in plain view like the microwave and the coffee pot.. Microwaves/coffee pots sit out all day...why should not my awesome wok? :-)

Overall I love this wok and highly recommend it. But before you buy it, make sure you want the Cadillac in the garage, and ... make sure you have room for the Cadillac.
Great wok!

I read the reviews on this wok extensively before I bought it. So far it seems to work as well as most reviews say. Some reviews stated that this wok seems large and takes up a lot of space. It is however, just a normal sized wok. In fact when I first took it out of the package I thought it might be too small and wondered if I should have gotten the larger version. The bowl walls are thick and heavy duty.

This is probably the first time that I have been able to make Asian food without consistently overcooking it. The sear function works very well. In most cases for stir frying I leave the wok on this setting for the entire cooking time. I did find it is better to cook meats in smaller batches to get the best searing results and to avoid 'stewing'. I also had the best results when I let it warm up on sear for the recommended 10 minutes. I have not had any problems with the bottom of the wok getting too hot for the counter top as some others have states but I guess its better to be safe.

The wok is easy to clean. Once you get the hang of separating the bowl from the base clean up is a cinch. (It did take a few trys to learn how to take the base off and on) Although technically the bowl is dishwasher safe it's easier to hand wash. To prevent scratching of the nonstick surface which was also a complaint of some users, I use a spoon shaped high heat rubber spatula. Works great. The cord is really heavy duty and has the easy pull ring on the plug. The wok end of the plug actually locks in to the wok for safety and has a quick release lever for easy removal.

Probably the only thing I really don't like is that the temperature dial is numbered instead of showing the temperature in degrees. When deep frying things or when using low heat I like to know what the temperature is.

This wok has definitely brought back the fun in Asian cooking. I could never get results like this on my electric stove. I am looking forward to trying some traditional foods next. Specifically, I want to see if it will work to steam dumplings for chicken and dumplings.
A bit pricey but is so worth it!

I've only had this Breville Wok for a few weeks and I rarely use our cookstove now. I use this for just about everything. It gets HOT real fast, responds to temperature adjustments immediately. The walls of it are tall enough where a lot of the frying splatter doesn't fly out like a typical frying pan. Fried potatoes come out perfect every time. Eggs anyway you want them.. perfect every time. Veggies for stir fry are so easy in this. Some people complain about the size but it's not THAT big.. I just leave it on our stainless steel roll-a-round island table. Looks nice and is handy for doing burrito's, French fries, bacon, perfect for laying a tortilla in to fry or warm up.. we did salmon steaks a couple of nights ago. One end of the salmon steak is always thinner than the other end. EASY for this wok! Put the thickest part towards the middle of the wok leaving the thinner part pointing up the side of the wok. The middle is the hottest, the walls are a tat cooler. Perfect compliment in the thicker/thinner salmon steaks.. the entire steak was done at the same time without worrying about getting the thinner part over done. I've had a bajillion different kinds of pots and pans, woks, pressure cookers, steamer, etc in my life.. I've NEVER had a pan clean as easy as this Breville wok does. Literally you just wipe it clean in 5 seconds... Looks like brand new. The lid is perfect. I can't say enough good about this wok.. Sure.. you can buy a Presto for half the price.. but you'll not get a Breville! This is a Cadillac utensil... expect to pay a more for the best! Perfect for any thing you've got cooking! And it is one of those utensils that friends will say.. "What's that?" It's a beauty!
