This vice is a DIYers best friend.

This is a killer vice! This is my first vice for my shop and I couldn't be happier. The quick release is a feature that I don't know if I could live without. The quick release lever is stiff, but once it disengages from the threads, it slides right open. Like most tools, it was covered in gunk and oil and that is annoying to clean off. Installing it was simple. I cut a notch in my bench and screwed some supports to the underside to bolt the vice into. I mostly eyeballed it. It wasn't quick, but it wasn't hard. The installation of the vice was pretty easy, but you will probably want an extra set of hands. The vice weighs just under 40lbs and that can get a little unwieldy holding it over your head with one hand while trying to get a lag screw started. It racks a bit when the work is off center, but it's minor and doesn't bind or anything. I love this vice.
Vise was in perfect condition and is an excellent high quality vise

Bought used from Amazon. Vise was in perfect condition and is an excellent high quality vise, only the box it came in was used. Quick release mechanism works very well. Easy to install on my workbench.
Fntastic vise and an ever better value!

Don't let the 4 stars fool you, this is a fantastic vise and an ever better value. The one thing I did (that I wish was done from the factory) was I took a 5/16 tap to the holes. This way, I was able to attach wood face plates to the vise without doing anything strange to get the back plate on.

Edit:
I now own two of these. I have the 10" and the 7". The 10" vise needed a 3/4" spacer (on my ~3" workbench top) for the top to sit below the work surface, but the 7" sits on the workbench nicely by itself. The holes on the 7" vise were a bit harder to tap, but I'm not sure how many other people would do this anyway.
High Quality woodworking vise.

This is a great vise. I have an old Record vise and this one seems up to par with the Record on quality. Lot's of oil (as others have noted) but the product was well packaged. Quick release is stiff but workable. Another review asked about the dog not fully retracting. They thought it might be a defect. Mine is the same way, when fully retracted it still sticks up about 1/4 inch. I am not a vise expert but my old Record vise has the same arrangement on the retractable dog. I just took the overall height into account when installing the vise. The dog itself raises up 1". I definitely would recommend this vise.
Great value for the price.

Performs well. Very easy to install. It has a small amount of slop as the face moves left and right a little but it doesn't affect clamping at all. Bottom line, I would recommend it and buy another if I had reason for a second vice. I do wish I could find an easy way to install my own wooden crank handle but this is purely aesthetic purposes as I prefer to see more wood on a woodworking workbench ;). Happy woodworking everyone.
