I needed a pump to get the gas out of my 5 gal container into my car, as the sta-bil was expiring. It worked perfectly for a few minutes, no leaking, then the input hose fell out and went into the gas container. I got it out, but decided to epoxy the red tubes to the in/ out sections of the pump. Also, after leaving it cleaned out for a week, the pump dried out and it was very difficult to pump. I resolved this by unsnapping the bottom black section from the large pump (this too can come off, though I did not epoxy this) and pouring some regular canola oil in the main part, reconnecting, then running water through it. It loosened up very quickly.
In the end: 1) epoxy hose ends to pump 2) oiled main pump gaskets: I think it should be a great pump from here on out.

It Worked Perfectly!

For the $10 bucks, this is a great deal! I bought this pump for one sole purpose. I way over-filled the oil in my TDI engine and I needed to get the excess oil out. After calling some oil change places, it seemed that it would be easier to drain the excess oil if I had some sort of pump kit -- rather than driving to a jiffquick oil place and have them remove the skid and drain plug etc. just for a half quart of oil. When I found this little pump kit on Amazon, I figured for ten bucks, if only only works once, it's paid for itself. So, this pump kit could not have worked better. It comes with a length of skinny rubber tubing that you push down the oil dipstick tube. Then you attached the orange discharge hose to the bottom of the pump and the other end goes into a container -- whatever you have that will work. I didn't even warm up the engine/oil. I pumped it cold and it pumped the excess oil out of my engine without any leaks or slop. I pumped-out about 1/2 quart which got the oil level down to within normal operating range. (This is not the first time I've had an over-filled engine oil situation.) (Occasionally, the oil change places will over fill it way over the "MAX" mark.) I will be keeping this pump and accessories with my vehicle at all times. You just never know when you may need to transfer fuel or oil into or from another rig. (BTW, when pumping thicker fluids like motor oil, you need to push the pump down, then wait for a few seconds to allow the suction to draw the oil into the intake.)
As Usual, depends how and for what you use it-- worked for oil pumping, good for price

Some of these reviews call this "useless." I'll admit it didn't work for me at first, so I had to think it through.
I siphoned 20W-50 and 10W-40 oil from my VW TDI engine. Make sure the oil's warm to start obviously.
The key was to cut the large orange hose down to size because it likes to collapse under pumping pressure. Now it's only a couple inches between the pump and adapter to the smaller black hose, which goes to the oil pan. Cut this to the size you need too-- no need to make a longer oil path and more friction than you need.
After that, with oil at least, it's not so much a siphon as pump. Pay attention to the ideal pumping frequency. You'll get a little siphoning, then it will stop (it's oil after all), so pump again. ~5 second intervals worked well for me, and despite the effort, it was still less time than if I'd had to put the car up.
For water, it did siphon for me.
Is it cheaply made? Of course it is-- that's why it's cheaply priced. Don't treat it like it's made of titanium or Kryptonite, and you should be fine. A useful tool for the price.

Works, but not great for pumping oil

It did what I needed it to do, but it took some work. I had a lawnmower engine that I inadvertently overfilled. Rather than try to drain the oil from the engine, I decided it would be easier to pump it out. This pump did the job. That said, however, the suction-side tube completely collapsed due to the viscosity of the 5W-30 oil I was pumping. To solve the problem, I shortened the suction tube to about 2", and used the crankcase drain tube that came with the kit on the 2" suction tube instead of the full-length tube. The 2" piece was too short to collapse, and that allowed me to pump out the oil. It took less than 10 minutes once I shortened the tube. So, 4 stars because it did what I needed, but 1 star off due to the flimsy suction tube.
Works!

My 65' Mustang sat since 2008 and so the gas was most likely went bad. The drain plug on the gas tank is stripped (just my luck) and so I had to siphon the gas. Tried many methods and then decided to buy this. Glad I did, worked like a charm. Drained the tank as much I could then I connected the pump to gas line near the gas pump to siphon the rest and clean the lines out.
